Ability for local boards to decide dog access rules on local parks and local beaches.

during daylight saving, and prohibiting dogs from tracks within the Cascades Kauri Ark-in-the-, z7 n, _% a. c* @, f! R+ m* U# [

A new approach to deciding dog access to parks and beaches will also start in 2013. Dog access, j4 v, f; s0 l. @- q9 u
decisions will be made by local boards for local parks and beaches, and by the Parks, Recreation1 _8 N5 J* N+ U4 W; `" |2 m8 d
and Heritage Forum for parks and beaches of regional significance. Submissions requesting2 x4 {+ k. ?/ E6 Q3 ]
changes to dog access rules will be referred to local boards and the forum to consider using the
8 f5 N' V% Y& @1 f, K1 Gnew decision-making principles, criteria and guidance.; q& ^) m8 @ K
One of the new criteria – raised by the majority of submissions - are standard times and seasons to
^/ j. t- A' F- i U) x9 ?be used wherever a time and season dog access rule is used on a beach. The decision was to
7 J/ \9 [) p: K. w6 vadopt a standard summer beach time and season of 10am and 5pm, Labour Weekend to 1 March,
C, Y# k$ u" ]! @- jand to exempt its application on Hauraki Gulf islands (including Waiheke Island and Great Barrier
, L/ W) e% |, j6 ]1 q3 y1 q lIsland).
; s( R# w P* \6 N) EHowever, the new standard summer time and season will not be in effect until the forum and
) _4 N0 g3 k0 u. y3 slocal boards have reviewed all beach dog access rules in each area. The review will identify the
* p6 N% T+ I2 T) A4 Hmost appropriate mix of dog access rules for our beaches. This might mean that the new summer' k0 k, W1 d% n9 ?3 r9 B/ _! X* E
times and season will apply to some beaches, while for other beaches dogs may be allowed under1 E7 _' a9 {9 o
control off a leash at all times. The need to carry out this review and work out the best way to
