control off-leash in the open areas of Kakamatua Inlet (including beach), allowing dogs under

during daylight saving, and prohibiting dogs from tracks within the Cascades Kauri Ark-in-the-
; g: W' K7 V$ z9 T t; w/ Z( ZPark area of the Waitakere Ranges.

requirement of a license to keep multiple dogs on premises, and to prohibit dogs in heat from

A new approach to deciding dog access to parks and beaches will also start in 2013. Dog access
/ Z. N4 x5 l gdecisions will be made by local boards for local parks and beaches, and by the Parks, Recreation9 q' ~7 W" p: e1 G2 X, y# M6 y
and Heritage Forum for parks and beaches of regional significance. Submissions requesting
# Q. U1 O& d' G# d- {7 X& n+ zchanges to dog access rules will be referred to local boards and the forum to consider using the
5 Y" \% p4 I+ g7 k2 b' Cnew decision-making principles, criteria and guidance.
' s! B# y) M5 e. G4 b0 LOne of the new criteria – raised by the majority of submissions - are standard times and seasons to$ \2 T* a( s. y' ?) W. }0 {
be used wherever a time and season dog access rule is used on a beach. The decision was to$ W- F# W: B' b
adopt a standard summer beach time and season of 10am and 5pm, Labour Weekend to 1 March,/ E) S' R6 g4 q) Z9 n+ B
and to exempt its application on Hauraki Gulf islands (including Waiheke Island and Great Barrier
/ @" @+ R% t6 T; sIsland).; I! o% g: x: u# h: e
However, the new standard summer time and season will not be in effect until the forum and0 X( \ i& z- _! E5 z+ f1 Z
local boards have reviewed all beach dog access rules in each area. The review will identify the
/ N3 r4 j' K. _9 T7 \9 Ymost appropriate mix of dog access rules for our beaches. This might mean that the new summer! Z7 B' V4 I P" d& _0 a& M/ @
times and season will apply to some beaches, while for other beaches dogs may be allowed under1 E2 T0 U# q- K% W/ y0 U: k, C
control off a leash at all times. The need to carry out this review and work out the best way to

conducted by the relevant delegated authority before a final decision is made. |
