In New York, Brooke and Owen Shore are a young married couple that have been together since high school. They have recently begun to have issues with their struggles to become pregnant and Brooke’s preparation for her latest art exhibition that features Ansgar Doyle, an upcoming Irish street artist. Known for his erotic paintings, which include women that he has had sex with, many of whom are supposedly married. Ansgar openly expresses an attraction to Brooke and constantly attempts to communicate with her in the middle of the night, irritating Owen.
Owen wants to go to Paris for Christmas and secretly bought flight tickets after the exhibit’s opening; hoping that de-stressing will allow them to conceive a baby. However, Brooke wants to stay in hopes of getting more sales. One night, Brooke finds text messages from a coworker, Sarah, whom Owen tells her that she works with him as a co-producer as a news reporter, but Brooke starts to become suspicious of Owen’s activities. Later, Ansgar tells Brooke that Damien Light, a film director, is interested in buying his art and wants to meet with them in the Marias Hotel in Paris, to which she reluctantly accepts. Frustrated with Brooke’s sudden departure, Owen accepts an interview in Las Vegas. Later, Brooke catches Owen leaving in the middle of the night, further increasing her suspicions about his infidelity, especially when he visits a one-bedroom address.
Before Brooke’s flight to Paris, Owen and Brooke attempt to reconcile but are unable to due to Owen’s frustrations with Ansgar. Going to a bar to get drunk with his friend, Adam, the two met Amy, a journalist major from Columbia. Amy immediately recognizes Owen from the news and immediately starts flirting with him. Adam tries to get Owen to leave, but he decides to wait for Amy’s friend, “Briana”, who is also a fan of his. Eventually, Owen takes Amy back to his home where they have sex. They are eventually interrupted by Brooke’s messages. Owen, immediately regretting their hookup, asks Amy to leave and to never meet again; she does but not before Amy suggests asking for Owen’s favor in helping her with her reel in the future.
Closing the deal in Paris, Brooke fights off Ansgar’s advances and returns to New York and goes home to Owen. On the night of the opening, which is successful, Ansgar reveals a new painting as his centerpiece which is a nude model of Brooke herself. Disgruntled by this, Owen notices how close Ansgar and Brooke seem to be. Near the end of the opening, Amy shows up and attracts Ansgar’s attention. While greeting Brooke and Owen, he lies to Brooke about knowing Amy from the bar the other night. Soon, outside, Owen and Ansgar end up getting into a fight with Amy asking Ansgar to take her home. On their way to their apartment, Brooke begins poking holes in Owen’s story and even shows him an autograph napkin that Owen gave Amy the night at the bar. Owen eventually admits to sleeping with her, and Brooke angrily leaves while taking Owen’s phone.
During the night, Ansgar drops Amy off at Brooke and Owen’s apartment where Amy tries to convince Owen that she is not a stalker and that she met Brooke several days ago. It is revealed that on the suggestion from her friend and Adam’s wife, Eleanor, to hire an operative from Agency to test Owen’s faithfulness by making advances to him. Brooke meets Amy to go over the details and assigns Brooke’s number as “Brianna”. The night at the bar, Brooke attempts to call Amy to call her off, but Amy ignores her responses and signals the cameraman, secretly filming her and Owen, to go home. On the day of the art opening, Amy meets up with Brooke and lies to her about Owen turning down her advances. Giving her the autograph napkin as proof, Brooke pays Amy and invites her to the opening. Amy confesses to Owen that Brooke hired her to tempt him and that Amy sleeping with Owen was a personal choice and a professional mistake on her part; only doing so because he is on her “hall pass list”, an agreement she has with her boyfriend that she told Owen about earlier the night they meet.
After dropping by Eleanor and Adam’s apartment, Brooke goes through Owen’s phone and finds out that he was not seeing other women but was working on a story involving a senator convicted of infidelity and “Sarah” is Owen’s boss and learns that he got an apartment for them in Paris. Arriving at their apartment, Brooke finds Owen and Amy talking. Yelling at Amy as she apologizes for her professional misconduct, Owen intercedes and yells at Brooke for setting him up. While admitting his mistake, Owen bitterly tells Brooke that everything he has ever done has been for Brooke. While shouting at Amy, she chooses to leave but not before reminding Brooke that she set this whole thing up and that they both were sabotaging their marriage. Outside, Amy ditches Ansgar and he leaves as well.
Owen then asks if Brooke cheated on him with Ansgar in Paris, but Brooke refuses to answer. It is revealed that during Brooke’s time in Paris, Ansgar tried to seduce her, and Brooke, instinctively knowing that Owen is cheating on her, joins him in his room. While undressing her, Brooke is tempted by Ansgar but stops at the last moment. Concluding that Owen’s actions permit her to not have to answer his question; Owen is now left with the belief that Brooke did cheat on him.
As Owen is about to leave for his assignment in Las Vegas, both he and Brooke are unsure about their marriage at this point. However, Owen shows her their flight tickets to Paris from earlier on. Brooke accepts, and a year later they are now living in Paris celebrating Christmas with their newborn daughter. |
