How much of Auckland does the Queen own?
The Queen has emerged as one of the biggest owners of land in Auckland, at least on paper.
The first-ever stocktake of publicly owned land in Auckland shows "Her Majesty the Queen" as the registered owner of 23,334 hectares, or 4.75 per cent of the city's land area.
Public sector land makes up 19.12 per cent of the city, and the most of the Crown's share of that land is held in the name of the Queen.
Crown-owned land includes schools, hospitals, motorways and conservation land.
Auckland Council and its offshoots are the biggest public land owners, holding 37,164ha or nearly 7.8 per cent of all land in the city.
The chair of the Environment and Community committee, Penny Hulse said the picture would give Aucklanders some comfort, as it looks at how vacant or underutilised land might be better used for housing.
"The council has no intention of selling any of its prime parkland or reserves," said Hulse.
She told Stuff the detailed picture could also help discussion about whether schools could be more openly used.
"We are looking at opportunities to be more creative in how we look at public space."
"Is school just 9am to 3pm or is it a place we can invest in and make more open for community use," said Hulse.
Hulse said the council had bought 30 new parks in the past two years, and 17 others acquired at no cost, equated to half the size of the CBD.
The area of publicly-owned land is boosted by large reserves such as Rangitoto and Motutapu Islands, and about half of Great Barrier Island.
Housing New Zealand is one of the biggest Crown land owners, with nearly 20,000 sections, totalling 1435ha.
The outerlying parts of Auckland have the largest areas of public land, headed by the Rodney Local Board with 25,672ha.
Great Barrier with its big conservation reserve had 19,508ha and the Waitakere Ranges Local Board had 16,975ha.
One third of publicly-owned land in Auckland is classed as "other" which includes coastal strips, some Māori land and areas with multiple owners.
The stocktake of public land had been suggested in 2015 by the Productivity Commission in its report looking at using public land for housing.
Then-Housing Minister Nick Smith embarked in 2015 on a programme to convert up to 500ha of surplus Crown land for housing, but the work ended with only 25ha able to be used, and two developments eventuated.
The new stocktake by the council's research unit RIMU is not linked to any plans to change the way public land is used in Auckland.
总计: 77%
The Queen 23,334Ha 4.75%
Public sector 93,925Ha 19.12%
Auckland Council 37,164Ha 7.8%

Great Barrier conservation reserve 19,508Ha 3.97%

剩下那23%不到估计是海平面上升,图帝流失啦
