Do I need a building consent?
In most cases you will require a building consent for a conservatory, the only exception is if you have an existing floor/deck and the floor area does not exceed 5m2. In regards to porches or canopy roofs you can now build up to 20m2.
Although you may not require building consent, you must still comply with the district plan requirements (i.e. site coverage, height in relation to boundary etc) Click on the link below to see the complete schedule of exempt building work.
