it's called Jadelle. It's relatively safe and simple procedure. It's new to NZ with government funding only recently... Not every GP is trained to do this (because it's so new), so I suggest MMs go to Family Planning because their doctors are all trained to insert Jadelle.
As one of the MM said, the main "side effect" is irregular bleeding. And the best way to deal with the bleeding is to take the oral contraceptive pills (to control bleeding).
I just did a course for nurses at Family Planning last week. The lecturer said Jadelle is really really good. Simple and relatively few side effect.
Also for your interest, oral contraception pills (OCP) actually REDUCE 50% of the chance of getting ovarian and endometrial cancer!! And nowadays the dosage for OCP is actually very very low with more than 50 years of study now. When you want to get pregnant, the OCP does NOT affect your chance of getting pregnant as soon as you stop taking it. Recent study show, (unless you want to get pregnant) women who take regular OCP/Depo Provera/Mirena (IUD)/ Jadelle are actually MORE healthy than women who don't.
And the thing about "weight gain" is actually untrue. A very recent study with 5000 women shows that there's on average NO weight gain in women who takes contraceptive treatments. Some women even experience weight loss! It's all life style related...so people, please stop saying that OCP or Depo has caused you to gain weight... Excercise and eat less are the ways to prevent weight gain. |
