Boost for finance
Massey University will introduce a Masters of Finance next year, to be offered at both Palmerston North campus and Auckland campus. This follows approval from CUAP to introduce the MFin. “It’s in line with the international trend towards more specialization in finance education,” says Professor Lawrence Rose, who made the joint proposal to CUAP for the University’s College of Business with Head of Finance, Professor Chris Moore.
“The University has a top ranking in finance and this reflects the quality of our staff and programmes, says Professor Rose.”

New Masters degree in finance
Already the leader in finance education, the University takes a significant step forward this year with the introduction of a Masters of Finance Degree at both the Auckland and Palmerston North campuses.
“It’s in line with the international trend towards more specialisation in finance education,” says Professor Lawrence Rose from the College of Business. He says the new specialisation, with its focus on finance at Masters level, is unique to the University. Traditionally finance has been incorporated within other degrees.
Professor Rose says Massey is well positioned to introduce this programme at this time. “The University has particular expertise in finance ,with some very senior staff who have world-wide ranking amongst finance researchers and have driven Massey to the top ranking nationally in finance education.”
Masters in Finance programmes are well established in the United States. Graduate, from such programmes could be headed for fairly high powered jobs as chief financial officers, or in investment banking and global marketing.
“By establishing the masters programme now we are putting out a clear signal that the graduates will be pretty special with a widely recognisable qualification. Over time we expect this programme to become one of the premier business degrees coming out of the Asia-Pacific,” says Professor Rose
The academic team to take the lead with the new masters programme include Charles Corrado, Ben Jacobsen, Henk Berkman, Martin Young, John Powell, John Pinfold, Russell Gregory-Allen and Lawrence Rose.
Professor Rose says the finance industry has welcomed news of the new degree programme.
