关于Science的Operations Research

请问有同学学过这个major的吗？主要是学什么的呢? 以后对工作的实际应用大吗？必修的STATS 255, STATS 320 和 ENGSCI 391好过吗？小弟major是STATS, 因为Operations Research跟STATS的common paper很多, 所以想把OR作为second major. 望高手们指教一下. 谢谢!

Stats 255 is easy, but engsci 391 is VERY hard. To give you an idea, the class average for one of the engsci 391 asignments is around 25% (out of 100).

If you want to find a job in the operation research area, as a minimum you must do BSc(Hon), it will be quite difficult to get a job in that area with only an undergrad degree. I couldn't comment on stats320 because I haven't took it yet.

做OR在stats底下没啥大用的 尤其是bach

If you are serious about OR, I advise you take Math/Stat double major (or at least take second year math)  then do 320+391 to get you a specification. Speaking of job market, I have to agree that most of OR work don't take undergrad and even if they do, you will have to start from the very beginning (2 papers are just NOT enough)!

I won't comment on the hardness/easiness of 320 and 391 in any way, one because it's subjective to personal experience (no papers are easy without hard effort); also there is no comparison between the two --- two papers are completely different aspects of OR, and both will be introduced in 255 (so you could try!).

谢谢大家的意见, 看来真的要认真考虑一下. 其实本人对psychology比较敢兴趣,所以也会考虑把psychology当second major

stats255 is very interetsing, you should do it.

And if you have any problems - I am stats255 golden tutor
