为什么经济学只有在NZ和澳洲才有研究生学位？而在英美没有呢？

请问各位同学，为什么经济只有在NZ，澳洲才有研究生，还是一年hornors再加一年master， 为什么在英美的好一点的大学都没有master，直接上phD呢？奇怪。

你仔细观察就会发现英美的PHD都是五年的。。。。

英美都有MASTER IN ECONOMICS

"The graduate program of the Department of Economics is addressed to students of high promise who wish to prepare themselves in teaching and research or for responsible positions in government, research organizations, or business enterprises. Admission to the program is limited to candidates for the PhD. Students are expected to devote themselves full-time to their program of study. Students who seek the AM degree only cannot be admitted." -------Harvard

Doctoral and master’s degrees. Students may enter the Graduate Economics Program after earning a bachelors degree (or the equivalent) or a master’s degree. The Master of Art Degree may be earned by students in the course of their doctoral studies, enroute to the Ph.D. The Master of Philosophy is awarded to students who complete all requirements for the Ph.D. except the dissertation. The Doctor of Philosophy is awarded upon acceptance of the doctoral dissertation. The Economics Department does not accept students into a terminal master’s program. -----Yale

这基本上是所有在奥大排名之前的英，美大学经济系的规定。

一些稍次一点的大学可能会有，请大家提供一些，谢谢。

我是这么想得：打比方， 这些所谓的顶级名校都希望要培养航天员（并且这些学校有这些实力培养），所以如果申请者的初衷是要当民航飞行员的话他们是不会要的，所以所有的申请者的初衷都必须是去当航天员的。（劳动经济学中的screening很好的被应用到这个自我筛选的机制中，很多不是奔着博士去的人就不去申请这些学校了，即使他们的自身条件非常优秀，但是没有这份心）这样一来这些学校的选择面就可以变窄了，他们只需要条件最优秀的，有心读博的申请人。

但是，事物会变化的，而且为了优胜劣汰的法则得以实行，这些学校都设置了博士资格考试，两年的学习最后在这场考试中得到检验，胜者成为准博士研究生。败者（这里不是指不通过考试，而是不达到读博士的标准）。。。学校给你选择，授予你硕士学位，然后你就走吧，转行去做民航飞行员也就是去参加工作，或者别的什么。

剩下的所谓的胜者就是有资格成为航天员的（他们也就顺带被授予了MASTER）

这种学制本身就充满着挑战，很严格，很无情，但是强者一定会走到最后。

PS：大家有志读好经济学的，数学是根本啊呵呵。一定要读一些数学，最好是本科数学专业毕业的，再去申请本科后的经济学。

LZ想读博还是读硕啊，如果想读硕，那么也许美国并不是一个适合的选择，经济学非美则英。能提供高质量的经济学课程也就剩英国了，LSE是不错的选择。
