I think I am discussing on your topic, but it sounds like you and I are not on the same page...
...
Logically, It makes sense to think high deciles equal to high ses; high ese in turn equals to quality education. In reality, it's not always the case. One reason might be the government funding system, which greatly balances the equality of education for all New Zealanders. Undoubtedly, nz proudly has a very good social benefit system. Like it or not, there's no sign its gonna discontinue, and it does have an impact on the overall quality of education, healthcare, ect, throughout nz. "In a high decile rating school zone, there are still people coming from a wide range of household income level. As long as they are in the zone, their children are entitled to enrol in the school, dosen't matter if they are rich or poor," commented one of my collegues. It's a fair comment. How many parents have considered this? I don't know.
It's wise to consider other points also than simply deciles when choosing a good school. How important is a single decile rating and how important an ero report and other factors mean, everyone thinks differently, and in different ways. You and I are on the same page, but we have different understandings. Any way, glad to hear that you enjoyed the process of reading the reports and learning different schools. Wishing many more parents are like you.
