Let me share my story, but i'm lazy to type in chinese
my 5 and half months old bb girl was admited to middlemore hospital ecc last monday afternoon.
it started like this...
sunday night fever til 38 at 12am midnight, we took her to clinic and doc said might me urinary tract infection (UTI), doc wanted me to collect some urine from bb and bring it back the next morning. doc also said if palmo doesnt bring the fever down then ive to give Iburophen which is stronger, but i didnt, as i was worry that it will be too strong for my bb.
Monday morning urine test show some abnormal cells and we are ask to go ECC immediately. Being a new mum without experience, i was so panic, but i hv to listen to doc advice and drove to ECC. When arrive baby temperature is really high 38.8, and they took off all her clothes to release heat and give her palmo. then they take urine sample directly from her bladder. my baby cried like crazy. after an hour results is out and it's not UTI and they said it might me some other infection and further blood test needed to be done.
All I can do is to trust the medical staff to do the best for my baby. they tried like 8 times and finally found a blood vessel on her hand. my baby cried non stop, she keep looking at me as if she's asking why did i bring her to the hospital and let her suffer, i know she's in horrible pain but i can help her at all, all i can do is cry together with her.
then doc found out the soft spot on bb head is gone and is abit buldging up. and doc said its better to do a lumbar spine fluid check up to see if my bb has meningitis! (脑膜炎). I was speeceless, i didnt was my bb to go through that pain but what if it's really meningitis?? and so i agreeed helplessly. they roll my baby into an ball, and doc put something into her spine and take some fluid out for sample. no aneastatic was used at all. i was very scared, but try to calm myself down and get ready some milk to feed her after the scary procedure. when the procedure is done, my baby's head is full of sweat, she was in agony. I know she hated me as her mum.
an hour later blood results is out and said some virus fund but dont know what virus is it!! the blood samples and the spine fluid are both send for culture to see if theres any bacteria and results will only be out after 48 hrs!!!
doc said incase of meningitis infection, they hv to stay putting antibiotic through her hand. and we have to be hospitalised till everything is fine. antibiotic is given for about 2 days.
baby fever comes and goes and is always high above 38. took palmo every six hours. on the second day doc say she wants to make sure bb is well hydrated and avoid losing weigt, and advice to feed bb through a feeding tube. Tube is then inserted from her nose. every three hours nurse came into our room to feeb bb 100ml milk through the tube. palmo is fed through tube too.
on the 2nd night my baby body is full of rashes, no one knows what it is but they suspect is called Roseola Viral infection. the rashes improves and faded two days later.
48 hours gone, all results came back and nothing is found, which means my baby has no serious illness. but they still cant tell me why my baby is so sick n keep having fever. all they can say is VIRAL INFECTION!!! and they do not know what sort of biral infection it is! but anyway, i was relieve.
we stayed in the hospital for 5 days 4 nights, fever is gone by then but themperature is still about 37.5.
for those five days my baby only want me to cuddle her, once i put her down she will cry, once she heard doc n nurse voices she will cry. she's horrified of everything. she's very sleepy too. to be honest i thought my baby will leave me! i find that giving her a short bath will make baby fell better, and make sure to put a cool wet towel on her head. she had really bad diareoh till her bottom bleeds due to too much wiping.
she's now back to her old routine. but give your baby sometime, they will soon forget the horrible experience. give her lots of love, tell baby mummy is with her.
once home i boiled some apple water and pear water for her to drink. i used the fruits water to make formula. and i think it helps to cool her fever down.
