What about requests for changes to dog access rules on specific parks and beaches, and

A new approach to deciding dog access to parks and beaches will also start in 2013. Dog access

! @. W7 j6 H- y' C6 Vand Heritage Forum for parks and beaches of regional significance. Submissions requesting) L8 ]5 M' {! s) l
changes to dog access rules will be referred to local boards and the forum to consider using the Q* Z& l1 G- N9 b6 b
new decision-making principles, criteria and guidance.# a" k; M- c6 B6 _
One of the new criteria – raised by the majority of submissions - are standard times and seasons to4 e( G' g, n5 `; {% ^2 B
be used wherever a time and season dog access rule is used on a beach. The decision was to' @9 A2 L7 M: `5 H" Q
adopt a standard summer beach time and season of 10am and 5pm, Labour Weekend to 1 March,5 `: B* [& ]. l# R8 s V, j- u
and to exempt its application on Hauraki Gulf islands (including Waiheke Island and Great Barrier

4 y! L, ]# S$ A r8 S, G% f8 jlocal boards have reviewed all beach dog access rules in each area. The review will identify the1 u/ E% g& S9 \5 }9 C! L& S
most appropriate mix of dog access rules for our beaches. This might mean that the new summer
6 {8 h P: a( J5 x% Ltimes and season will apply to some beaches, while for other beaches dogs may be allowed under7 e! I J* f0 v* X2 |- M- v! H
control off a leash at all times. The need to carry out this review and work out the best way to: T$ S# q4 H2 Z% J* m
manage the safe interaction between people and dogs means that until those decisions are made

conducted by the relevant delegated authority before a final decision is made. |
