To be honest, I have 21 years experience include 17 years nz experience and my salary is not reachi ...
I am telling you, there's a ceiling staying technical in NZ (most struggle to get 6 figures, $120k is almost the industry ceiling top technical people get to).
If you want to get further (career or pay wise), you need to either:
- switch into solution architecture/design/consultant (which is possible to get to $150k)
- switch into management (which is possible to get to $150k+).
Obviously to get into either, it's not about how technical you are anymore, but rather how connected you are to the industry, how indispensable you are to the business. If you are willing to take on additional responsibility, and deal with additional shit/politic/people problem, you should make the jump.
note: you should join the IT wechat group that a local guy created, there are tonnes of developers there that only have 5+ years experience, and sounds to me that many of them are hitting $100k-$120k salary already.
