Move over granny on your Sunday drive.
Police say slow drivers who refuse to let others pass this long weekend will be ticketed.
Senior Sergeant Phil Newton, of the Canterbury Highway Patrol, today urged patience and tolerance from those heading away for Queen's Birthday Weekend as winter conditions added to the risks on the roads.
He said motorists should drive to the conditions, but he warned those wanting to go so slowly that they caused frustration and risky behaviour by other motorists.
"While it is not an offence to drive slowly, drivers who impede the flow of traffic or do not pull over to let others pass will be ticketed," Newton said.
Slow drivers could be instantly fined $150 for "inconsiderate driving".
Such ticketing was becoming more common, particularly over the Hunderlee Range on the way to Kaikoura, he said.
As with other holiday weekends, police would enforce a reduced speed tolerance of 4kmh for all permanent posted speed limits.
