WHAT TO DO
- If an ambulance, fire engine or police car is coming towards you or behind you, and is using sirens or flashing lights, slow down, pull over to the left and, if necessary, stop and allow it to pass.
- Use your indicators to let the emergency vehicle and other road users know what you are doing.
- If there are two lanes, change to the left lane or the lane that is not being used by the approaching emergency vehicle.
- Use common sense.
WHAT NOT TO DO
- Don't panic.
- Don't keep driving without pulling over or stopping.
- Don't slow down in your lane and block traffic.
- Don't drive through any controlled intersection like a red light or stop sign. Emergency service drivers will see that you're at a red light and will manoeuvre around you or wait until the light turns green. |
