谢谢楼主回复。我在local authority已经有了一个permanent职位并已经工作了近2年,但我总还是想去consultant公司试试。你的话鼓励了我。
想请教一下,你进council之前的那份工作,跟project manager似乎还 ...
Just keep in mind if you join the consultant your title will be something close to graduate engineer/engineer, and you will do a lot of calculations, I dont know how you find it, but calculation to me is fine, its just the consultant like to know how much time you have spent on each job - I find this quite difficult to cope with.
you are right, the job I had before my current job is quite different to project management, but I still got the job (out of 20 applicants) is because I have 4 years experience in civil engineering, I have convinced the recruiting-management panel that I am capable of this job by showing them I know to be a good project manager you need to able to finish your job with 3 components, they are time, budget and quality. and I have good experience in all 3 components. For my previous job I was involved in 5-6 complex precast projects, I was responsible for from the initial cost estimation to the delivery of the product. some of these projects hasnt been done before in NZ! (not because they are very advanced technology, but because as a country we didnt need it until now.) Maybe I should describe more about my job content for my previous job at Stresscrete.
I am not a CPEng yet, I am working towards that, I used to think being a CPEng you need to have at least 3-4 years of experience in consultants (most of engineer obtained CPEng from this way) but you can obtain your CPEng through working experience other than Consultancy work - a manager from my previous work NEVER worked for any consultants and he is not self employeed, most of his work is engineering management, but he still obtained his CPEng. but its more difficult going this way.
