Which Google branch is ur boyfriend and his brother working at? I guess not San Jose. If ur boyfriend/ his brother David only knows of Alan Turing as a theoretist, then he has apparently never taken an AI course, and doesnt know as much about computer science as he claims to be. Name dropping maybe a waste of time, but if you cant even name drop a few computer scientist, then you are probably not a very good one. Thanks for your/ his concern, i know very well how to code, and he should probably mind his manners when talking to/ about a girl. just because he works for Google, doesnt mean that he can be a snob.

Btw, please try not to quote other ppl, its pointless. I could also be quoting my friends at Google, MIT, Standford, my boyfriend, the professors I know.. ? What does it have to do with what you have to say?

Certainly the name rings a bell to me,  and I am not even close to be hired by Google, I too is a bit surprised if some computer scientist in google never heard of him.

如果你足够幸运，在你学习的过程，没有人提到过这些人，你也不去查，你不会“知道”这个人，这不是没可能,但不等于你就白学了, 我不需要知道钻木取火的人是谁，我只要知道钻木可以取火的原理就好

在你说之前，我没听说过他的名字，为什么会说我”既然“听说过？你觉得起码要知道，那是你觉得，不是一个必须的东西. 你是没有说不能住在这个国家，但是你打了："那估计等于白学了” .... 我也认为如果你是雇主的话，你不会雇佣这人， 重点是一个人万幸不“知道”他所学领域里的“名人” 不等同于“白学了”， 只是针对你的这个观点, 因为，听说过也会因为不在乎而忘记，下次有人提起来你就愣是想不起来. 这如果是COMMON SENSE，那连不是这个领域里的人也都应该知道, 即便是一个common sense，不知道也不代表白学了，这是重点.

是得，偶尔会有exception to the rule,  但是 Alan Turing 最有名得work 是 Turing machine (complexity theory) 和 Turing test (AI), they are named after him. 我比较奇怪得是你知道他做了什么，怎么能不知道他得名字呢? Yes, you are right, there are exceptions to the rule. But the possibility of that happening is so slim, it can mostly be ignored. For an example, Einstein failed his Maths exam and was jobless for awhile after he graduated, but most ppl in his situation did not become a great scientist.

呵呵 当你面试过几次之后，你就会发现其实不太存在紧张  没发挥好得问题，基本上interview 还是挺能表现个人能力得，抗压能力也是很重要得能力，对 software engineer 也是如此, 不要以为写code 就可以 hide in a dark corner and not interact with any other team members. You will constantly be challenged, and being able to prove yourself in a stressful situation is also a part of the job, how well you are able to communicate under pressure. 如果连面试这点都没法应付  确实比较难成为好得员工

哈说的太好了，羽毛球的那段太贴切鸟……昨天跟一个A Grade打羽毛球的洋人说起李宗伟受伤，她瞪大眼睛问我，李宗伟是谁？我faint，可是不知道不是照样可以打得很好。
貌似记住人名的唯一用处是谈资+应付无聊的面试？所以数学里常用发明的人命名这些公式，要不然谁记这个？一个最怕记人名所以完全没有common sense的人飘过。

我有说他们不认识AlanTuring吗？ 无语了。
还有我quote 他们只是想point out that is not only me who thinks like that .
还有知道他和love him like you do is very different. 就象知道AlanTuring和同意你的白学说法一样是完全不相干的。
当你去面试的时候。 人家问你 how do you improve this code to make it run faster  或 can you code this up 你说我不知道 但是我知道AlanTuring 请问有用吗？
还有他们是不够厉害。 所以在参加acm world final 的时候才得了第13名。哪有你厉害是吧!
我是本来不想比什么的， 可是你太气人了。
谁不认识些厉害的呢？ 我还认识俄罗斯方块的最早的创始人之一(so what)

最后你去问下你的那些朋友 还有professors 看看有多少人会同意你的白学说法（前提你提起是 不可以说是你的想法）然后你上来说说他们都说了什么

话说如果雇主只凭常识就雇人，那么那些苦学了N念的人真是白念了，任何人临时抱佛脚读2周就能拿到工作了。

no offense there, I respect you and ur friend. 99% of ppl now days don't even know who invented Computer and still using computer... It's irrelevant  to the skill/knowledge of programming algorithm if can't speaking out the full name of turning machine.
my guess is the guy's into management/consulting position where by having all fancy jargon/name would make him seems to be having more knowledge.

天朝真是冷漠，主持人和CEO太没人性了，人家晕倒在地居然没有人去抢救，人家醒来依然没有放过人家，还继续逼供。幸好那人只是暂时晕了一下，如果出了什么大事主持人和在场的工作人员很可能面临法律的责任

A Grade打羽毛球的洋人   他不知道亚洲人李宗伟  正常，但是你让他说出一个 他喜欢的羽毛球知名运动员  他肯定不会瞠目结舌说不知道  说忘记了吧，  这个例子不太有说服力。


记忆什么名人名字确实是僵化的考试方式，但是大家不是让他列举十个八个，是说一个而已，作为在一个专业深造熏陶过的，  就算不用刻意去记忆，至少应该  有自己喜欢的名家，  谈及自己的专业时候能说出对一两个自己喜欢名家的 理解，这是很正常的要求吧，  要不然，花几年时间学了个啥，去扫大街都还能攒点钱，记住几条扫过的大街的名称啦

我也认为专门好用考试去要求记忆什么名人名字确实是很傻×的做法，但面试现场大家不是让他列举十个八个，是哪怕随便说一个而已，作为在一个该专业深造熏陶过的，  不用刻意记忆，至少应该  有自己喜欢的名家，  谈及自己的专业时候能说出对一两个自己喜欢名家的 理解，这是很合理的要求吧，毕竟  这些学费和青春都是哗啦哗啦的付出了，多少脑子要进点东西吧。   毕竟 花几年时间去扫大街都还能攒点钱，记住几条扫过的大街的名称啦  

被要求死记硬背是一回事，对于自己专业有最基本 起码的积累和认识 又是另外一回事

Bac+5的确是一个postgrad/master的equivalent. +5的意思是5 years of study after the bac exams (UE exams i'm guessing?)

他的三个证书，如果我没看错，只是laminated. 我不知道法国的证书就如此建议么？新西兰的都是羊皮纸，很正式的啊！laminated paper看起来就像是短缺课程呢。。。

他的法语发音不错。女的发音好烂。。。。。

可是，什么样的天才，在法国十年能做到学几年语言，可以达到bac+5, 还有两个其他文凭？
