I can certainly understand this reasoning.
Firstly, as you said, '在新西兰,进大学60-70分就可以了,这么看来,对大多数学生,进什么学校没有大区别'.
So we both agree on that.
Secondly, '但如果孩子只能达到40-50,那进好学校就能加大进大学的可能' - well, this is possible. Although there is plenty of people I know went to AGS and still can't get into UoA. But it is possible, I don't disagree.
Thirdly, '如果孩子有可能达到95以上,普通学校是开发不出来这样的潜力的' - That's probably not true. When I'm at high school F6 and F7, I kept a close eye on top NZQA Scholarship award winners (the highest acadamic achievement in NZ high school education). Although you'll always see names from top school like AGS every year, but you can still see plenty of award winners coming from ordinary high schools too, e.g. Avondale, Rutherford, even Mt Roskill!

On close inspection, we can see AGS does do well, give them credit. But doesn't mean ordinary school can't produce top achievers.
