Gurley was walking in a dark stairway of East New York's Pink Houses public housing complex with his girlfriend Melissa Butler (above center) at the time of his death. Police sources told the Daily News officials attempted to reach Liang and his partner for over six minutes after the killing to no avail:

    Right after rookie cop Peter Liang discharged a single bullet that struck Gurley, 28, he and his partner Shaun Landau were incommunicado for more than six and a half minutes, sources said Thursday.

    In the critical moments after the Nov. 20 shooting, the cops' commanding officer and an emergency operator — responding to a 911 call from a neighbor and knowing the duo was in the area — tried to reach them in vain, sources said.

    "That's showing negligence," said a law enforcement source of the pair's decision to text their union rep before making a radio call for help.

Authorities reportedly only learned of the shooting after a neighbor called 911.

Gurley was reportedly killed by a single bullet, after Liang drew his gun upon entering the stairwell. After the incident, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton told reporters Liang "had no intention of striking anyone" and may have accidentally discharged his gun, and that Gurley was a "total innocent" who "did not engage in any other activity other than trying to walk down the stairwell."

According to the Daily News, Liang and his partner weren't supposed to be doing stairway patrols—known as "verticals"—that day.

得再去做点儿功课搞清楚状况再说，如果真是这种情况，我就不签名了。一条鲜活的人命，过失杀人也是应该承担责任的。

After Mr. Liang’s arraignment, Kimberly Ballinger—Gurley’s domestic partner and mother to his child—and her attorney Scott Rynecki held a press conference outside Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson’s office. Mr. Rynecki ripped into Mr Liang for entering the stairwell against orders, with his gun drawn and for allegedly conferring with his partner after the shooting as to whether they should call for medical assistance.

“As a result of the reckless actions of Police Officer Peter Liang, there is now a two-year-old girl who goes to sleep every night without her father kissing her good night. As a result of the reckless actions of Police Officer Peter Liang, Kimberly Ballinger is now a single mother,” Mr. Rynecki said. “Had they had acted in an appropriate and quick-response manner, would Akai Gurley still be with us today?”

我的看法 首先我尊重生命 但我也尊重事实 逻辑上如果没有威险警察不会掏枪 我相信警察都受过良好的训练才会巡逻 不是情况紧急危险也不会荒乱中开枪 开枪以后 周围的环境是否安全这些媒体上都没说 我们仅从媒体简单介绍就可以发现一些疑点 我认为华人警察是牺牲品 这不公平 举个例子如果你在街上走对面有个小混子小混子没有任何危险举动你会拎起菜刀去砍他吗？

说得好，尊重生命，尊重事实~~目前看到的是说，被杀的黑人当时是和partner一起走在黑暗的楼道里，没有武器，也没有做出威胁性的行为，你提出的受到威胁论是逻辑性分析，但是法庭讲证据；另外，事发时，这名警察和他的搭档并没有检查楼道的任务，而是让他们检查lobby；误杀之后他们也没有及时打急救电话，错过了最关键的急救时间，后来是六分半钟之后邻居打的911~这是引起大部分人不满的关键点~~误杀人的警察当时只是给另外的同事发了text，而且都报不出自己所在楼的地址......貌似是新手警察，当时有些慌乱啊，走在漆黑的楼道里执行任务难免紧张，可以理解，但即使是无心之过，法律上也不能完全免责吧？毕竟过错之下伤害的是条无辜的人命，用牺牲品这个词不当吧~~不过怎么判决、如何量刑不知道目前什么状况？这种情况应该最多是判过失吧，非专业人士，不敢妄下评论，我先去看看多的报道和后续情况再说~~~我还是我的观点，不管华人也好，非华人也好，这不是我支不支持的关键，事件本身的是非对错这些才是关键。

My Opinion On the Case of Akai Gurley (compost in haste)

Accidents happen. Tragedies happen. Last November, Mr. Akai Gurley died
after a misfired bullet ricocheted off a wall and struck him. Our sympathy
and condolences are with him and his family.

It is natural and right to call for actions when a young life is lost. But
vengeance shouldn’t be part of those actions. Now the District Attorney of
Brooklyn had indicted Officer Peter Liang, we should all hope that DA
Thompson is not motivated by vengeance, or the need to placate public anger,
or, political expediency. We hope he is searching for justice.

For the sake of justice, we must explore the details of the case and must
correct a few misconceptions about what happened that unfortunate day. First
, Officer Liang and his partners are both rookies, highly unwise for a
patrol sent into a dangerous area. One can understand why they might be
nervous that day. Second, when the gun misfired, Liang had his gun in his
left hand because he needed to hold the flashlight in his left hand AND AT
THE SAME TIME open the door to the stairway. For the manslaughter charge to
stand, the DA must prove Liang made a conscious decision to put his finger
on the trigger in contravention of NYPD firearm safety procedure. But we
could understand why a person could accidentally put his finger in the wrong
place while juggling so many other things. He might not have made a
conscious decision to put his finger on the trigger. In other words, he didn
’t WILLFULLY disobey department policy. Oh, did I mention the lights were
off in the stairwell?

After the shot, many people fault Liang for not rendering medical aid to the
injury Mr. Gurley. First, let’s imagine what it sounds like in the
stairwell after the shot. A shot fired in a confine space. A bullet hit the
wall. The noise and the echo will be tremendous. Both officers were treated
for tinnitus after the incident. The noise alone could stunt someone. Second
, Liang didn’t saw the bullet hit Mr. Gurley in that darken stairwell, he
saw the bullet hit the wall. Sound effects of bullet hitting a body only
exist with Hollywood movie magic. Third, Mr. Gurley made it down two more
flights of stairs before he collapsed. When he collapsed, he was three
floors down from Liang. Liang can’t see Gurley. Liang couldn’t know the
extent of Gurley’s injuries. The reports that paint Liang as heartlessly
standing next to a dying man doing nothing are wrong.

Every man who stands before a court must be presumed innocent until proven
guilty beyond reasonable doubt. An eye for an eye is not American Justice.
Going to jail for the actions of someone else is not American Justice.
Officer Liang should not be jailed out of vengeance. Officer Liang should
not be jailed for the transgressions of other police officers elsewhere.
That will be a miscarriage of justice. We must prevent miscarriages of
justice from happening to anyone, regardless of their skin color. Let there
be justice.

第一，楼主请不要散布假消息，“如果有10萬簽署，起訢会被收回” 请说出此句话的证据出处。
第二，无辜射杀他人，就应该被起诉。这和警察是什么人，被射杀的是什么人没有关系。

楼主在这里强调的是华人，所以意思说：因为警察是华人，我们就应该投票支持，不管是对是错都要支持。至于是不是替罪羊，还是要相信法律。

应该是白宫会有回复 起诉可能会被收回也可能不会 确实有误 当时是转发美国的消息 对不起
黑人无辜是美国警察头子的说法 警察应该陈述事实 是否无辜由法院判决 这里警察头子没经过法院就说黑人无辜 是误导 对华人警察非常不利 警察头子没在现场 说黑人无辜是不对的 沒有危险华人警察是不会用枪的 就象我们走在大街上 不会拿着菜刀到处走 随便砍人是一个道理

现在说对错还早 你我都没在现场 黑人无辜是警察头子的说法 他也没在现场 警察头子不是法官 他应陈述事实 不是下结论 华人警察现在弱势 可能成为警察上层为平息黑人不满的替罪羊 这不公平
以上是我支持这次请愿的原因

正因为现在说对错还早，所以我们没有必要请愿，是不是黑幕，是不是替罪羊，你我无从得知，还是让司法给出判断吧。
