CX5, it is a concept suv, more like a crossover style, no matter how many so called "technology" in ...
The CX-5 is NOT a concept any more. It is mass-produced. The CX-5, no doubt, is a soft roader, but the RAV4 ain't an offroader like Prado either. Both of them are budget urban commuter vehicles. The CX-5 offers Hybrid like MPG and better safety equipment with a more friendly price tag. On the other hand, the current RAV4 still sits on an outdated platform (except the Hybrid model which will be introduced in the north american market), and because it is OLD (or in a better marketing term "time-tested") and mass-produced, the RAV4 is cheap to build and maintain from Toyota's perspective. This might be a good news for fleet buyers, but definitely not the individual consumers who are going to spend their own cash. If the consumers still need to pay shit load of money for a grandpa's car (Even the CRV has evolved, why not the RAV4??), it is a rip-off.
Toyota has managed to create and keep a propagandas which describe how reliable their cars are for decades, but the reality is they no longer are. Toyota has recalled their vehicles quite often during past few years, the MY2011 RAV4 was just recalled in the US not a long time ago. You may ask why there is no such recall in NZ, I would say it is because most of NZ New Toyota vehicles sold here are basic in term of equipment comparing to the counterparts from other brands.
Don't get me wrong. Toyota make good and affordable cars, and our first family car was a 1996 Toyota Camry, but this brand is getting boring due to a number of outdated vehicles in its fleet (with updated price tags though). The new 86 is a good try on the right direction though. |
