Updates! Which is better ? 100k salary or contractor rate of $720 a day

lets be realistic for a second, 720 a day will not be 200k in a year, I cant work 52 weeks a year !

i think work 44 week a year is more realistic. I did some calculation using online take home ...

$720 x 48 x 5 = $172800, then work out the after tax income between $173k in Auss, and $100k in NZ.

Heck just go to Australia.

个人觉得10万就别来惠灵顿，折腾，钱也不多

反正是折腾，如果你是单身的话，干脆折腾到澳洲去

如果一天720是澳币，那当然去澳洲了，如果720是纽币那我觉得还是年薪10万靠谱一些，毕竟有holiday pay allowance之类的。 你到澳洲不还得住房买东西，花费可是按澳元计，普通生活澳洲花费肯定高过Wellington, 如果真要到矿场那类生活环境恶劣的地方，那花费更高。

去澳洲吧,这么年轻,换一个国家,多一点经历,而且澳洲,我是在BRISBANE,什么都比新西兰便宜,除了鸡蛋, 同样是K-MARK,澳洲会比新西兰的便宜三分之一,当然你不能算汇率,因为你是在当地赚钱,所以长远来说,应该还是澳洲比较好,以后再回来养老,反正你在澳洲也交税,回来一样有养老金.

I have asked one of my collegue (he is earnning 650K at the moment) why he came back to NZ and took a 50% pay cut, his answer is lifestyle exchange for pay. If you prefer to stay in NZ, income definitely shouldn't be your first priority.

自然是澳洲了。这份contract收入高，澳洲市场大，而且多一份经验。要知道contracting和full time做起来挺不一样的。。。

You'll have to work under a lot more pressure and people would normally expect more from a contractor. Really good oppotunity for you to develop yourself.

Hi there, it is great to know that we can have such a role model to follow and you earn honour for Chinese. Good on you!

In my humble opinion, yes, money is something does matter but definitely not all. I am sure you can have your lucky wife and baby a very good life with 100k in NZ. And I will give a vote to the role with more leadership involved. Three questions:

1. You are not meant to be a developer or contractor for your entire life, so why not start to move on a year earlier. I think you will be able to find a lot of similar contractor opportunities in Australia in next  a couple of years. However, are you confident to get the same role next year in either NZ or AU?

2. Long term money or short term one. Back to money, it does make difference this year if you would have chosen to take the contract. Will it make more differences in your entire life and will those differences compensate the money you "lose" this year if you start being a leader or start-up?

3. Do you still remember your dream? And what does your dream mean to your wife and your baby?

I am sorry if this sounds like an old man speaking to a young man which is supposed to be the other way around :) Anyway, if I could have been someone as good as you in the future, I will go the leader role. Hope my two-cents helps and I am sure you will be excellent whatever decision you have made.

I think the reason why you can't make the decision is coz you want to earn big amount money and stable. You will never find a way to balance that. You mention you work in insurance industry, you should understand that's called "risk". That's the decision you can only make by yourself, coz you are the only person who knows what do you really want. don't be panic.
