更新(小道消息)
-----------------------------
Slingshot’s All You Can Eat plan provides Full Speed internet access, and unlimited data usage each month which means you benefit from a fixed price every month. We are focused on delivering a product that meets your expectations and a positive user experience. Due to our geographic isolation the cost of International Bandwidth in New Zealand is more than 50 times more expensive than some other countries. While this makes an All You Can Eat plan very challenging, our team are committed to making it happen. . We remain focused on setting the standard in the for NZ market for broadband performance – price, speed and usage.
We have invested significantly in traffic management which includes our caching environment, and international transit capacity. We think we have the formula right, but ultimately you will decide. We want to be as transparent as possible with our customers on this service without giving our competitors inside information, so some of the product design principals are detailed below:
1. Telecom currently dimensions their Unbundled Bitstream Access (UBA) network at 45kbps per subscriber. This is currently in place for all UBA customers regardless of the service provider that is selling the service, and exists on the broadband service we provide today. We do not believe Telecom should dimension traffic at this rate. This constraint does not apply to customers on the Slingshot Better Network – as a result it is a better service. We are continuing to roll out our Better Network nationwide, so more customers can enjoy the benefits of a better network.
2. Slingshot All You Can Eat customers have their own pool of International Bandwidth. This is provisioned at a far greater rate than Telecoms national dimensioning. All You Can Eat customers have more than 3-4 times the International Bandwidth allocation per subscriber compared with our limited plans. The logic behind this is straightforward - we expect All You Can Eat customers to be power users and this means significantly longer times online (perhaps even always on!). As a result, the bandwidth allocated to this pool needs to be considerably more.
3. Due to the high visibility nature of this launch, we have elected not to disclose this rate however I’m sure some users will work it out. A key point to highlight is the additional dimensioning does not guarantee your speeds will improve given the likely profile of customers in this pool.
4. All You Can Eat customers will have access to our caching technology, which accelerates content delivery by localising it onto our network. This means that during times that International capacity is congested, you can still achieve excellent speeds. If you’re a new customer, ask around in some forums about the likely experience – the feedback is generally pretty good.
5. We schedule our traffic to ensure that attended usage is the highest priority during congested times. As you would expect, the prioritisation is based on the following:
1) VOIP Traffic, Gaming, Local, Browsing
2) Streaming
3) Email
4) Exceptions (traffic types that are unknown)
5) P2P and other file sharing technologies
6. If you are a power user within this plan, we will not single you out and slow you down. There is no abuse pool and no targeted throttling of high volume users. We believe this is against the nature of “All You Can Eat”.
7. We are asking for a 24 month contract – it is the fixed recurring revenue that helps make the business case and we have committed to additional capacity on contract term to deliver the service.
So, there you have it. Give us your feedback and help us deliver a service that you and other customers will value – this is all we want to achieve.
