The 7th Race Relations Day Multicultural Festival, initiated and hosted by the Federation of Chinese Associations in New Zealand, will be held on 6th September, 2024, at the Imperial Banquet Centre.

Located in the South Pacific, New Zealand is a culturally diverse country where immigrants from over 50 different ethnicities live and work harmoniously in this large community. In order to enrich and enliven our community and to showcase that Chinese people are also members of the New Zealand family, we have organized this event. During the festival, you will have the opportunity to experience the landscapes, rhythms, and flavors of different cultures through tasting food and wine, enjoying music, dance, and art. You will also have the chance to make new friends, appreciate different customs and traditions, and gain a deeper understanding of our shared world.

“International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination” is an internationally recognized day designated by the United Nations. This day is celebrated annually on March 21st to promote the ideas of eliminating racial discrimination and fostering racial equality.

The origin of this day can be traced back to March 21, 1960, when South African police opened fire and killed 69 black South Africans during a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, causing significant social upheaval and international condemnation. In commemoration of this event and as a demonstration against racial discrimination, the United Nations decided in 1966 to observe March 21st as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

On this day, various activities are usually held, including awareness campaigns, lectures, seminars, cultural exhibitions, and more, to raise public awareness and understanding of racial discrimination issues. Additionally, many people use this day to call upon governments, organizations, and individuals to take concrete actions in eliminating racial discrimination and promoting racial equality.

位于南太平洋的新西兰是一个文化多元的国家，有来自50多个不同民族的移民在这个大社群中和谐地生活和工作。为了使我们的社区变得丰富而有活力，也显示了我们华人也是新西兰大家庭成员之一，我们组织了这个活动。在活动中，你将有机会通过品尝美食美酒、欣赏音乐、舞蹈和艺术来体验不同文化的风景、韵律和味道。你也将有机会认识新朋友，领略不同的风俗和传统，并对我们生活的世界有更深的了解。
