North Shore bids to be an independent nation

North shore is about the size of singapore with population of about 300,000.

If you want to stir things up, this is an independent bid to make it a nation on its own.

Give your signature if you support the bid, it needs 400,000 signatures to call for a referendum.

A referendum similar to BREXIT will see North Shore breaking away from NZ. A passport will be needed if South Auckland people want to enter North Shore Independent State.

30/5/2018: The weather is freezing cold outside, i decided to have an active discussion on what it takes to be a City State, taking a few countries as points of reference, namely Singapore, Monaco, Vetican, Tax haven island ( Panama), the work ethics and the Spirit of Capitalism in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

When using those countries as points of reference in discussing North Shore Independent State (NSIS), the discussion slowly tune towards the following issues:

- on tax structures: how low tax regime would end up motivate the people and the nation to excel rather than punishing them for the hard work they produce.
- Social policy on compulsory saving and employer contribution and retirement.
- Ageing and Multi culture based retirement communal villages and partly government funded policy in elderly care. Age with dignity/ respect.
- foreign investment ( how Global Head Quarter can set a base in North Shore and capitalising on its human Capital), gradual taxation on foreign companies to encourage them setting a base and creating employment opportunities.
-how quality immigration and concept of meritocracy should be a centre of focus over popular culture in the making of city State.

- Location of CBD and light rails and building of intelligent city; how the city is interconnected with the light rail link.
- Eco and environmental friendly city

- Developing Technology hub to be a "silicon valley of the Pacific"; start up, enterprenuership; potential for financial hub  (banking secrecy ; parking of assets and money)and "swisszerland of the pacific". Investors friendly regulations and compliance.

- Zero Tolerance to crime and rule of law to be of paramout priority for the City State and among other issues in the form of questions and answers.

This is a hypothetical situation, of course some people take it quite seriously and some take it with sense of humours...... Whatever it is and whoever you are, you are welcome to participate, to mock, to LOL and most of all have fun.

Isn't it a lot of good ideas started off being oppressed, marginalised and mocked by people and thereafter became a good idea? and people (the oppressors, mockers) end up say why didn't I see that first?

That is a good starting point for North Shore Airport. We don't need army air-base as North Shore State is politically neutral. The airport can be expanded further (eg plenty of farm land near totara road etc).

The airport can be tendered as a private investment entity consisting of 55% North Shore State-owned and 45% private/overseas shareholders owned. In no time, it will expand and overtake Auckland Airport (AIA).

It is a monopolised business (and will compete with AIA), think about it.

The signatures can be from the whole of Auckland, north south east west....... even south island or the corner of invercargill to herald island, cook island, any island you can name. Any signature is a stamp of approval

If the Nation is rich, it will pass on to the people......... The wealth of the nation is shared with its people.

If your take home pay is $100k with no tax for the first 100k, you have a lot of money in your pocket, you can afford to spend more ( discretionary spending).

Those costs will be considered small if on average everyone will be earning more and paying less tax.
The Government will be aggresive to get foreign investments as a way to fund the small nation and gradual tax to get their commitments in building a base here.


I always think is easier to manage a city state than managing a nation. Take for example, 1/3th of tax payers are in Auckland and its revenue has to be shared with the rest of the country.
Hong kong as a colony (in the past)and city state can be prosperious, as it is vibrant with a lot of young people willing to venture there and friendly to investors ( you can read about its tax rates)

North Shore Independent State ( NSIS) will have its own airport and people will want to come to north shore to work than for north shore resident to go out of north shore ( may be for cheap entertainments in weekend as the currency may end up higher due to efficiency and low debt). The Road Toll will be imposed on people coming in so as to discourage.....??

If you fit your eyes on the current north shore, you will think as you think it is now. no offence.
May be NSIS can sponsor another bridge ( or underwater tunnel) to Auckland in future for "old time" sake.

政府不在北岸投资是事实。不过也没有办法。现在的政治环境是提供可负担住房。就是南区，西区。和中区的高密度。

There is no point of discussing it with bungyjumping999. Obviously, the importance of geo-location means nothing. None of the sample CTs that he/she provided is solely rely on being tax heaven. Even Singapore has the second busiest port in the whole Globe to support their annual GDP.

So, lets packed up and go back to the things more meaningful in life. lol

The world is now so connected. It will be IT hub, Financial hub.
It has to be tax friendly to International Corps and for individuals as well.

At the moment, there is a good human capital ( smart people) in the country, can encourage more through immigration, it will be a good start up for many international companies as well as local companies as human resources are all ready here.

The Independent City State is small, so will rely on Servicing Sectors (eg HQ for International Corps, online business), friendliness (tax, and less regulatory control) in developing it into another "Silicon Valley of Pacific"

Singapore is a point of  reference ( notice not "the"), Monaco, Vetican, Tax haven country ( eg Panama) are also points of reference.   Hong kong, Taiwan - the working ethics and the spirit of capitalism are also point of reference.

The un-compromised principle are :

-There will be Rule of Law for international confident.
- A respect for commercial certainty for people to invest.
-Meritocracy not based on popular culture but on individual achievements.
