SUBJECT: Conartist on the loose
As discussed tonight, an email in regards to our missing money today.
We had in a well dressed Asian gentleman (dress jeans, blazer jacket) in our Cromwell store at lunchtime today. He purchased a Glaceau drink.
When at the POS he handed onver a $100 note. Our staff member gave him
$96 in change.. He then pulls out $4 in coins and asked for his $100 note back.. As he is giving back the $96 he holds his wallet over the money for a brief second and keeps $40 of the change. As our staff member is counting the money back to put in the POS he makes a scene about chips and confuses her. On the security footage (from the front door angle), he drops the $40 on the floor, he then drops the chips on the floor and picks up the money and places it in his jacket pocket. He leaves the store and gets into a small modern white 5 door hatch back.
He is the passenger of the vehicle, and the vehicle is reversed into the carpark, so they can drive straight out. At our 2 minute cash in we were down $40, and we have worked back from that.
I called Sue to let her know, and she said she had a well dressed Asian gentlemen in Balclutha on Friday afternoon, and had a similar happening.
This time he handed over $100 note for 3 cookies. Sue gave him the correct change, he said he had $2.60, could he have his $100 note back.
While Sue counted the money back into the POS, he made a scene, but she realise she was $60 short. She asked him where the money was, and he was very sorry that it had dropped on the ground at his feet. He picked it up and gave it to her, and left the store.
We have had the Cromwell Police here today, they did say he was a very slick operator and it didnt look like it was the first time he had done this type of work. I will get hold of them again tomorrow and let them know that the same man had been in Balclutha on Friday. When Richard returns on Wednesday, I will get him to down load the footage for the Police. Between the footage from Cromwell and Balclutha, I hope to get a mug shot. I have just been speaking to Anthony, and he said they had the pleasure of a visit today in Frankton also. He thinks he can get the footage of their car. Fingers crossed! |
