Y ppl here particularly prefer txting English? I thought generally ppl in this forum tend to like typing Chinese.......Da......
Honestly, as an international studnet who speaks English as a 2nd language, the most difficult thing is not your academic grades, but the UMAT. UMAT just crews ppl up regardless who you are and where you come from. I knew heaps of local ppl whose UMAT were even under mine. I'd like to say Bsc BioMed first year could b a bit easier for Chinese students than local ones since English-wise, you would expect much less amount of academic writting. BHSc requires lots of academic writting. I was hopeless in my first year. Now, I read over my previous essays; even myself was surpised how difficult those craps were to read(poor tutors... SORRY.....). I wish you good luck. But honestly, you shuld make the decisoin carefully. MBChB means six years of full commitment to a full time study (including the overlapping year) in New Zealand, and from 2nd yr, you are expected to pay more than NZ$60.000 each year for your tuition without considering the cost of textbooks, living and other stuffs. Afterward, a self-supported international studnet cannot be guaranteed a job offer to be a house officer/surgeon since like other careers, NZ residents are the employers' first priority.
I do strongly suggest you to come to our grafton campus and talk to Karen, the international student officer in FMHS. I think she would be more than happy to help you out.
BTW, I didn't get into Med either. More important things were, 1st, I am still happy about wot i am currently studying now and 2nd, I am almost able to say good-bye to uni soon, at least a "Good-bye for couple of year"... Good luck!

No offence....but from your English I'm not very hopeful you'll get in to med. No pressure and no hard feelings. I thnk it might be easier to talk to your parents rather than stress yourself out. Why do they want you to be a doctor? It's pretty damn hard work....

Oh btw I'm not saying it's impossible....the chances are just a bit...slim. Mind you, if you have the time, you can apply again after finishing biomed....I think

不是简单，而是没有那么多人去竞争。读牙医难不难就像小马过河一样，每个人的说法都不一样。只有努力就不难，起码我觉得不是太难。读医就不知道，但我准备去读了。

我再补充两句。读MED一定一定要自己真的感兴趣，有动力才可以。
其次打工什么的真的算了，想都别想，我们以前算过，一节课international学费将近一百多钮币。fail一门的学费够打工累死累活半年了...
还有如果不能进med的活，想好以后学什么，比如biomed,phyiology, bio, chem...看看这些课都要求什么
最后，就是如果要决定了，core papers是必须要A的才能面试。这并不是什么难事，如果你有self-motivation的话。

LZ读foundation的话，真心锻炼语言才是关键， 边打工边冲医学不现实。
142个人觉得不是杀手课，而是读完不知道学到什么，猜不到考什么，不轻视就行了。
106全靠背，and yes, choose the easiest GE.
小tip,注意身材，我认识的身材臃肿看起来不算健康的都没过

最大建议～～不要打工，成绩保持A-左右就ok,主要看面试和UMAT,交流一定要做到很casual，口语要洋人标准。

几年前认识一个，他平均是A都转不了。 他说名额太少了， 牛人不少。如果是毛利话，他就一早转了。太不公平了。

很多人都fail106，但是个人觉得还好吧。主要理解对了,明白了就好,虽然听着很废话,个人不同方法学习吧,我死记硬背是不可以的,但是理解明白之后就简单很多~

Mesci 142 每年有10%-20% 人都不及格，如果1000人学的话，就是至少100人fail....

MEDSCI的课和英语虽然有关系，但是没有中国同学说的什么因为我英文不好就考不好。
这样的观念是不对的。不管是LAB REPORT还是考试的ESSAY，全都不会是批你语法的。都是批KEY WORD。
一个在中国正规好一点大学上学或者高中成绩很不错的英文不好的中国学生 好好学 好好查资料。英文主要练习怎么把ARTICLE里面的话翻来覆去的抄着说。考试题目反正是基本提前知道的。提前2个礼拜写一下背一些，写的再烂B RANGE是没问题的。但一定得努力想天天泡吧泡妞又学MEDSCI的要三思。

我也见过NBC英文好的一塌糊涂，但是FAIL的人。 关键还是看个人学习能力而已

Apparently i can not still take part time when i start to learn biomed . To be honest i suffer a lot  from being a waitress >< and it is hard for me to continue working there .

  i will probably live with my brother in the city next year . My brother also suggests me to shorten study days but arrange time from 12.00 to 5.00. Maybe its because he thinks its hard to get up early XD..

You told me that you just took the interview. How was that? Hope you can pass it and successfully be a MbChb student.

To be honest, I don't think you would be able to continue working part time when biomed starts if you want good grades enough for medicine ( I haven't worked at all this year during uni, but still didn't have that much free time to play around with friends, that's just me though). But, you can continue doing part time job now so you can have more pocket money for the coming year. I'm not sure trying to studying now would be the best idea, because you really don't have that extra push and pressure that allow you to get through everything. If I were you, I would try and improve my English fluency in the holidays so that it would be less of a weakness, and relax well to prepare yourself for a hard year. Don't be stressed now :D, save the stress for later, at the moment do everything else you need and want to do.
You might already know this, but there are in fact 2 pathways into the medical programme, biomedical science and health science. There are 4 common papers studied by both courses, they are biosci 107, medsci 142, pop health 111 and chem 110. They look at all your 8 papers for ranking for the interviews (which to be safe you need a A- average). Once interview is done, they then look at your grades for the 4 common papers (which ideally should be A average minimum). So, really there is no point getting A+ for physics, biosci 101, biosci 106....because as long as you get A- for them, it doesn't matter how much higher they are, cos they don't count.

Semester 1 courses are pretty much set. There are morning and afternoon streams except pop health which only has afternoon stream. Morning lectures start from 8, afternoon starts from 1 I think. My semester one timetable was like from 1 straight to 5, with all 4 courses. It's easy in the sense you don't waste any time in between, but it can be really exhausting, and I couldn't concentrate for that long and often lose focus later. My labs are all in the morning. Speaking of labs, I need to stress how important it is that you choose a good lab partner, they could help you heaps, or drag you behind. I know that it is now within your power to choose a good one, but do try your best :D

If you live close by, try and choose morning classes, because they really do give you that extra push to wake up early, and you can spend more time studying in the afternoon and evening :D

i am an  international student and just finished foundation study for four subjects which are business , calculus ,bio and chem. i know it is hard to study medicine  and my family has high expectation onto me . i am not that kind of smart girl and i still need to work on my English, so i feel quite stressed now. actually i am taking parttimejob now , do you think i need to drop it and get myself into study ? and why pop health111, chem110 biosci107 are so important ? what s more , i am going to choose courses and make timescale  , do you have any suggestion of timetable?
