其实统计是bullsh*t, 学了之后没什么用

我说的都是实话，本来统计这科目至少奥大教的统计都是水分很高的。

经过三年full time统计工作经验后，我越来越发现统计这行越干越无聊，做出来的东西都是垃圾。

老师上课都是给你最好的例题，但是真正工作当中谁给你已经准备好的数据？

当年上课的时候我就想过，成天做regression看P-value的工作好无聊阿，结果真的这样。

虽然我不觉得我读统计后悔，但是我是一个很怪的人。大部分读完统计都转行，主要也是读的不好，就因为统计好pass才读的吧。怎么说吧，读统计后，很多去DFS卖包包，或者是电话销售。读的好的去政府部门，但是早晚一天会被裁员，因为你做的东西水分太多。读的再好的去做研究，但是你很快就会失去动力，我们的老大萨米都这样说了。

如果读统计想做精算师的，我只能对大部分的人说，good luck and dream on.

记得高中Year13的时候数学有分两个选择，一个是Calculus,另外一个就是Statistics
而Stats是公认的简单课，一般数学不好的就学Stats。这也造成很多人打从一开始就不把Stats放在眼里。
但我是很想把Stats学好，也打算 ...

Stats and English are two very similar subjects. It is very easy to communicate badly in both subjects. English is very to learn to write and speak badly. Same with stats, it is very easy to do the wrong stats.

记得高中Year13的时候数学有分两个选择，一个是Calculus,另外一个就是Statistics
而Stats是公认的简单课，一般数学不好的就学Stats。这也造成很多人打从一开始就不把Stats放在眼里。
但我是很想把Stats学好，也打算明年exchange去Berkeley看看能不能学到一些在奥大学不到的。

Because in NZ, the maths foundation is soooooooo bad. He is studying in princeton now majoring in acturial science. He is finding it so hard because people from other countries are soooooo good at maths.

Stats at UoA is non maths based, but it should be. They will never assess you on maths, because people will fail.

At least Australia has some standards, never lower the requirement is good. UoA is just rubbish, always lower standards, NZ is always like this.

第二点，undergraduate的课程简单并不仅仅是奥大的问题。全球都是这样，就单看statsdepartment的话奥大的undergraduate的水平估计还不如国内二本水平。但是到了masters 和Phd就要比国内要高很多了，学masters 和Phd的人才真正能学到东西。很多700的课还是很难的, 尤其是David scott 的课。

Also, I know many graduates who have gone to do PhD Berkeley, Harvard etc have to put hell lot more effort to improve mathematics skills than people from some other countries because the requirement to enter/graduate with Hon/Master is so low in UoA......

Stats researches in Aussie is much weaker than UoA, but they never lower their requirement for stats students.

我觉得统计这门课最关键的就是，如果你能学好，或者是学校教得好，精准，你可以去学。如果学校教得不好，我觉得千万不要去试统计。因为统计如果将不好，或者乱讲真的可以误人子弟。统计很容易就讲成一个ms的科目了。你看现在新西兰中小学，天哪，year 1就开始讲probability，不得把小孩朦死. 我觉得统计讲得太早完全不好,给人家统计很简单的感觉.我们这里就有人认为统计很简单,成天就是用电脑软件做analysis.

在这里发帖确实能影响到一小部分中国人，虽然学统计的有很多中国人，但是他们最多能占到四分之一，尤其是1xx和2xx的课。kiwi 和来自其他国家的人才是问题，我觉得中国人的数学，统计基础普遍比其他国家的要强。由于奥大的学生来自世界各地，水平良莠不齐，相差很大。所以学校就要保证那些水平最低的那部分人也能过，于是就把课程设置的很简单，这是我的理解。所以lz在这里发帖很难有什么效果。。。

如果楼主真的想帮学统计的同学，就介绍一下那些课值得读，那些课不值得读。或者你认为奥大统计就根本没有值得学的课。

既然你们都是stats的学长，就应该给现在stats的同学以信心，而不是打击他们。如果有意见跟department说，有些事情不是学生的错，不是学生能够决定的了的

我们再和department反映都没用，唯一能改变的就是从学生么做起。学生才能改变学校，学校改变不了自己的。如果学生们现在就是为了好毕业，那么统计就会一直成为一个好毕业的科目。现在统计系的情况很不乐观，真的对大部分人是rubbish in, rubbish out.

国外读统计的都是高材生们，不像奥大，都是和什么Film, Japanese, Logic 101一起读的
