个人觉得对于刚毕业的别人还是很看重成绩的,对于已经工作了的就无所谓了,主要还是看工作能力

1. 工作是看给人能力+工作经验,成绩在这时候不重要
2. INTERVIEW是也不看成绩,但是成绩是在你工作经验不足情况下最有帮助的
3. 如果只是混个毕业证,那出来工作还是要补上的,特别是专科技能的,比如会计,到了会计公司,晚上还得恶补,还是那句话,“出来混的,总要还的”
4. 如果你有兴趣继续深造,名校的标准就是EQUIVALENT TO SECOND CLASS HONOUR (即B+以上), 当然好的工作经验可以弥补
5. 如果想走捷径,GRADUATE PROGRAMME,那B+的成绩就是硬指标
6. 主要来说,专业技术类,如律师,会计,医生,工程师,对成绩比较看重,因为工作和学的东西紧密相连,至于管理,那很难通过成绩来衡量的

I thought the hr in telecom will do the shortlist for you and present you with handful cvs rather than for you to read 50-100 cvs yourself,grade is really catering for hr so does skill matrix.I do agree with what you said for the rest.

To me this is still kind of industry dependant. I have hired entry level people into the team before and i never even care bout their grade. Instead i gave them real life scenarios questions and try to find out how they go about solving an issue.

Obviously all hiring manager does it differently, and look for different thing. I have to admit usually for big companies (Big 4, multinational companies etc) they seems to care a lot more bout grade especially for entry level position, and those are probably the only indicator that will reflect how good the potential candidate is.

To be honest if i am hiring a fresh grad, i will probably be looking for someone that has long hair, look nice on short skirt, and looks even better when i drop the pen and they pick it up for me... my hiring criteria are easy.... no good grade needed really. :)

not saying grade isn't important. It took me long time to get my first job partly because i did E&E and was looking to break in to IT and what i learnt from my degree isn't much related to what the industry is expecting in real life.

In reality there are still many companies that wouldn't even interview someone because their grade look shit on CV (kind of industry dependant). For Telecom's fresh grade program, they usually have to compete with 1000s of others to really stand out and get selected at the end, and in that case grade will probably be one of the determining factor.

All i am trying to say is, i think i do ok now even with crap uni grade, and usually i don't specifically look for people that do well academically when i try to short list CV/candidates because grade doesn't necessarily reflect that person's ability to perform in the real world, that's all.

My personal view is, for those that are capable of getting good grade in uni, in real life they should be able to achieve even more than most of us that struggle to do well in uni, so i do have a lot of respect for straight A / honor students. :)

when you have many c.v in front of you, how do you decide which one to interview with? what are the factors here before you decided to see the candidate?

We are not talking about people with 2-5 years exp and looking for a job.We are talking about a grad which just start their career.Obviously , the better the company you can get in the better your career in the long run.It goes without saying that good company does require grades.

No worries , I just find a new job which I got 30% pay-rise.It is pretty much due to what I have learnt on the first job.The fact that I got my first job is that I got good grade + a project at uni.I might write a story on that after I finish my exam at uni.I might want to talk about continuous learning , 2 ladies in my office both got their master while working and still learning sth else.It means that in the work place.

I think what you mean here is that , if you do not have good grade , you can still make yourself more employable  by getting some industry certification and industry specific training.If you do not have good grade , you will be saying I have a lot of certs in your cv.

In the job market you are competing with other people for a job , so if you have good grade write it down in your cv, if you do not have good grade write down something that you are good at in cv.(certification,industry specific training).
But sometimes you are required to provide your cv as a grad,most big comopanies graduate program requires that. If this is the case ,  you have less-desirable grade in your cv , hr may not even read your cv.(That's most important thing that your grade can benefit you or screw you) .
At least for grad program in my company,hr will receive 400-600 cvs per year, they do not have time to read all of them. What they do is look at the grade first  (they are required to send Academic record)  to narrow the scope to about 100-200 cvs ,then they can read these cvs to pick up the best one.

( I know for  datacom,it requires minimum of b,when telecom still take technical grads 2 years ago ,I was told by my friends , they require minimum of A,I think telecom does not take technical grad anymore at least no formal technical grad program , they do have elite grad program,that's even harder to get in.Big 4(accounting firms) requires good grades too, I happen to be interviewed twice in a row by E&Y,grade does get me the interview twice,but it is really tough to get in to big 4 as a non-native speaker)

Hr in my company do admit that it is not the best way to select people ,coz good grade does not mean good worker,but given the time constrain,this is the only way they can do to reduce the number of cv to a manageable level.Last year , it cause some problems in Auckland offices , coz 2 people rejected our job offer , we think that they (people with good grade) normally have multiple offers in their hand,they normally pick it up the best one.This year , they introduce some code competition as another way to select people.

So good grades can only get you interview , but the more interview you get the more likely you will find a job as a grad.As a student , you should maintain at least b - b+ average grade,c is a bit low.It does not mean that you can not do well in the job,simply indicates that as a grad ,shit grade will make yourself less employable.But good grade is not good enough,you should try to get certifications and other training as well to make you much more competitive than other people.
As a grad , a very good grade is a big asset , with that you will have much more opportunities than others,if you get into a big company you will start in front of other people in your career,but it is just beginning,it requires a lot of more learning in the job or outside job to keep you still ahead of other people.

i was a C- average student in uni (failed two papers each year too). When i interview others i usually focus on what they know rather than how good their grade were.

I do have to admit that for some industry for large organizations they do care a lot about grades though.

第一份工作可能有点用吧,但也紧限于有个interview,最后能不能拿到offer,还是看临场发挥和个人运气了

to be a matter of fact i think most people will need to supply their academic transcript and c.v to job agences before they get a phone interview then a agency interview and then your future employer interview.
