Most airlines worldwide using the e-ticket (ticketless) travel system require a form of identification to be presented when customers check-in. This is to ensure that the customer named in the booking is the same person who boards the aircraft.
For domestic bookings, a form of photo identification such as a driver's licence, passport, student ID card or a recognised form of company ID are the preferred methods of confirming identity. Airpoints or Koru card, Star Alliance Partner Frequent Flyer card, Air New Zealand personal UATP Travelcard, major credit card, birth certificate, Farmers card, PSIS card or Community Services card are also suitable forms of ID.
Infants and children (up to 11 years old) do not need to provide identification, however their parent or guardian will be asked for verification.
Young travellers aged 12-17 years do require identification or verification as to their identity from a parent or guardian. |
