http://www.stroke.org.nz/stroke-blood-pressure-campaign
Each year the Stroke Foundation teams up with Foodstuffs, St John and Rotary to offer free blood pressure tests and highlight the importance of a healthy blood pressure.
The 2013 Blood Pressure Awareness day will be on Saturday 5 October. So far we have around 170 confirmed venues where free blood pressure tests will be offered, mainly at New World and PAK'nSAVE supermarkets.
CLICK HERE FOR THE LIST OF VENUES - note that this list will continue to be updated up until the week before the campaign day, so check back nearer the time for final confirmation. (Currently updated as at 3 October.)
Click here for the list of non-supermarket venues taking part (NB several of these are taking place on days other than 5 October).
This year we are pleased to welcome Wellington Free Ambulance to our partnership of volunteers. They will be carrying out the tests at venues in the Wellington region.
Why blood pressure?
High blood pressure puts too much pressure and stress on the walls of blood vessels and increases the risk of both haemorrhages and blood clots. A person with high blood pressure is up to seven times more likely to have a stroke than someone with normal or low blood pressure. Failure to detect and control high blood pressure is the single biggest cause of avoidable strokes. Click on the leaflet to the right to read more. |
