Hi all,

   I wonder if there's anyone live close to Mt. Wellington, Sylvia Park area? I would like to know if you have boardband around that area what is your normal average download speed?

   I am with vodafone for a long time and they download speed is normal around 110kb / sec only.... would like to know if there's any ISP doing better than this.

Everyone's better than this I think, 110kB/s means 1Mb/s rate flows on your line, bloody slow.

I am living in Northshore and use a V's Broadband, normally download speed is 1.1MB/s, 10 times faster than you.

Well, at my father's house (he lives in Three Kings) the speed is much faster with exactly the same plan..... probably about 4 times faster than mine.

It looks like the network is just slow in my area (Mt. Wellington). And that's why I'd like to check if anyone lives close to the area has a faster speed (and with which ISP).

it might not be ISP related but to do with how noisy your line (copper wire into your house) is. If you are getting ridiculously bad speed, then you should raise a fault with your ISP and get htem to look into it. They should have tools which can do line test etc through the phone. If you do indeed have tired/old cabling, switching ISP isn't going to help.

BTW, i am assuming that you do have proper DLS filter etc in place and have done all the basic test? (e.g. unplug all phones at home and run DSL speed test, try a different DSL filter, try a different DSL router etc etc? And you are not connecting to the DSL router via WIFI are you? if you are, does the speed change when you connect using ethernet cable?)

Well, I did a test with the phones plugged in (and I have filters).

I actually want to figure out if it is ISP problem... or it's just our area etc.... that's why I am looking for anyone who lives close and check the speed.

I have the same setup in my father's house and the speed is much faster.... so don't think it is the setup problem.....

May be I can try to ask for support from Vodafone :)

also depends what you are downloading, speed might be capped by the source, then nothing to do with your ISP.

I finally called vodafone support and found out that the problem is.... when I moved house last time they didn't change the exchange (coz my new house is quite close to my old house) but in fact the exchange is quite far away from my new house.

So Vodafone says they will log a job to change my internet to go to a closer exchange and hopefully the problem will be solved.
