Still not too sure what LZ is trying to say and compare actually (it seems to me he likes to post to entertain himself:) so I try to be not too serious...however, still like to make some comments.

- I m just a bit speechless on a comparision likes this. Well done, LZ.... ;190]
政治背景 :政党数量这个词的内涵和外延在这与在中国不一样.中国虽一党制,事实上山头林立.新西兰说是多党制,在惠灵顿时,常见两党领袖在电视上对骂,开完议会后,常在一起.
- What LZ said is national politics, not the local one. Although you can say Len Brown is a member of the Labour Party but he did not stand for the mayorality as a "Labour Party candidate". The parties in Auckland politics are not between National and Labour, but "Citizen and Ratepayers Now" and "City Visions".
Btw, in the Western democracy, they all work in a similar way, not just Auckland.
经济背景:当下全球任何一个市政府可操控的经济元素大致相同.
- While Council may sound very rich and owns a lot of public infrastructure assets, I would love to hear what economic powers does Auckland Council really have in terms of greatly influencing the future of Auckland. Infrastructure development is the most direct way a government can do to stimulate the local economy. However, the fact is, council here does not even have money to build 3 more rail stations in order to connect the rail line from Mt Eden to Britomart in the CBD but keep arguing with the Central Governmment over the cost and benefits of this so called "City Rail Link" project. Also, final decision of all other major transport infrastructures (motorway, rail) are in the hands of the Central Government (by NZTA and KiwiRail, etc), and what Council can do is indeed very limilted but could just keep "advocating" these projects to be funded, leave alone all the statutory procedures that one must go through (environmental impact assessment, RMA, land acquistion, etc) before the construction can really start - the difficulty of buiding anything major here is just so huge which simply cannot be imagined by any officers in the local government in China.
While I do apprecate LZ's passion in city planning and concern about Auckland's strategic position in the South Pacific rim, may I suggest LZ to probably read a bit more on this area first before launching a topic likes this, this will better inform the readers and conducive to the discussion. Although we may not need to be really that serious here, it is still good to avoid posting something nonsense I think ....:) |
