Overseas Merchandise Trade: October 2009 highlights:
For the month of October 2009 compared with October 2008 unless otherwise
stated:
Merchandise exports were valued at $3.0 billion, down $859 million
(22.4 percent). (纽币要是居高不下这个数字还会继续)
The fall in exports was widespread with milk powder, butter, and
cheese; crude oil; and casein and caseinates being the most
significant contributors.
The exports trend has been falling since November 2008, and is
down 15.4 percent since then.
Merchandise imports were valued at $3.5 billion, down $1.4 billion
(28.3 percent). (金融危机进口商都怕)
The fall in imports was also widespread with petroleum and
products; and mechanical machinery and equipment being the most
significant contributors.
The imports trend has declined 25.3 percent since August 2008, the
longest and largest period of decline since the series began in

Across all households, average weekly housing cost expenditure was
unchanged from the previous year and resulted from:
- an increase of 8.1 percent in average weekly property and
ground rent payments decreases in average weekly mortgage
principal repayments (down 7.1 percent) - and average weekly
mortgage interest payments (down 2.8 percent).
For those paying rent, median weekly household expenditure on
rents increased by 9.5 percent to $241.
For those making mortgage payments, median weekly household
expenditure on mortgages decreased by 4.8 percent to $312.
Average annual household income from regular sources increased 5.6

International Travel and Migration: October 2009 highlights:
Visitor arrivals (187,400) were up 8 percent from October 2008
(173,900).
There were more visitors from Australia (up 15,900) and China (up
1,100), but fewer visitors from Korea (down 1,900) and the United
Kingdom (down 1,300).
Overseas trips by New Zealand residents (176,500) were up less
than 1 percent from October 2008 (175,900).
New Zealand residents departed on more trips to Australia (up
2,400) and Samoa (up 1,200), but fewer trips to the United Kingdom
(down 900).
Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 2,100 on a

The median ages for males and females were 35.5 and 37.5 years,
