A Hamilton Pak'nSave has taken out the title of New Zealand's cheapest supermarket in Consumer's annual survey of supermarket prices. Pak'nSave Clarence St was No 1 in the survey.
In 2013, New World was the most expensive in Consumer's survey.
Clarence St Pak'nSave owner-operator Tony Rider was thrilled his store had come in 13 per cent cheaper than his nearest rival. "We've been really focused on negotiating the best prices possible, we're committed to buying products in bulk, so we can keep the prices of many items down for a long time," Rider said. "It's been a really busy year for us . . . we just finished an $18 million upgrade in January 2014, which has given our customers wider and brighter aisles that will make the whole shopping experience that much easier. "We've added lots of sustainability features including CO2 refrigeration and LED lighting, all of which are designed to reduce overhead costs and enable us to keep our supermarket prices down." |
