G.1 - Houston, Texas (Key words: NASA, NBA, The Drunk Shakespeare, Texas Chicken & Gun Shooting)

Safely arrived, but with a gloomy sky and no luck finding an Uber during the evening peak hours, had to walk another 1.2 km to reach the right bus station.



However, a new issue occured - I didn’t have any coins for the bus ticket. Fortunately, a kind local guy shared some with me. How blessed I was!



The next morning, formally started exploring Houston, absolutely beginning with NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration).



The tour began with Mr. Michael Baker, a former astronaut.



Used astronaut uniforms on display.



Working hard on the moon.

Self-reflection after visting NASA: In the vast universe, we’re all incredibly tiny, so make the most of the present and don’t stress too much about people problems. Everything will pass.

Grabbed juicy and flavorful Shake Shack burgers for lunch with my new backpacker mate. Tasted better than the ones I've had before in both LA and NYC. Plus, it's tips free.

  

I feel seriously sorry for my new mate for using this ridiculously terrible perfume. It was a free sample given by the BA at S&C in AKL CBD, and I had no idea what it smelled like before.



A realxed and peaceful afternoon walk at Rice University.

But first, dinner. Literally, junk food tastes better at a sports venue.



This was my second time seeing an NBA game live, and the vibes are always so exciting and cheerful. Just clapping and cheering with the crowd is a great way to relieve stress and burn some calories.



The next morning, I received one bad news and one good news. The bad one was that I was attacked by bacteria causing flu-like symptoms. The good one was, forturnately it wasn’t COVID.



I felt unwell but decided to explore Houston anyway. I figured that sunshine might help get rid of the bacteria. What do you think, Kitty?



On my way to the farmers' market, learned another word for ‘laundry.’ Doesn't it looks like somewhere in Fiji or Tonga?



Here it is. Looks like X'mas has already started.



Personally, I love visiting local markets to get a closer look at real local life.



The red radishes look so fresh and sweet.



I would call this a beautiful creation.

Not really wondering how cactus tastes, but should I get some for self-defense? After all, it does have thorns!

Self-reflection after visiting MFA in Houston: I have come to realise why I enjoy visiting museums and art galleries so much: they offer a unique sense of stability and peace that is often hard to find amid the chaos of everyday human life.

Next spot is Chapel of St. Basil, located on the campus of  the University of St. Thomas in Houston. Designed by Philip Johnson, a prominent architect known for his modernist style, completed in 1997. The chapel is characterised by its unique geometric forms, including a cube, a dome, and a granite plane. The main structure is a white stucco cube topped with a gold dome, which serves as a prominent visual feature on the campus.



I know it may look small and not particularly special at first glance, but what if we take a closer look? Can you feel the vibes?



The interior is designed to maximise natural light, featuring a skylight over the altar and an asymmetrical glass cross on the west wall. The altar is made of granite and is accompanied by a crucifix and various religious symbols. The chapel seats approximately 225 people and hosts daily Mass services.



I was continuing to enjoy my time in Houston by experiencing Drunk Shakespeare! The performance features five professional actors, one of whom drinks five shots of whiskey and then attempts to perform a major role in a Shakespearean play. The other sober actors work to keep the performance on track, resulting in hilarious and unpredictable moments. The lovely couple in the photo below were very nice to me, we shared cheers and laughter throughout the show.



Also the audience participates in the fun by receiving a shot before the show begins.



The actors performed Lorde's "Royals" during the show, a melody that resonates deeply with me as a young resident of New Zealand.



The show has concluded, leaving everyone with cherished memories. And yes, he does just wear underpants.



Self-reflection after experiencing The Drunk Shakespeare: Life is fleeting, so savor each moment.

This self-top-up machine on the bus is fantastic, and it operates at lightning speed!



On my way back to my accommodation, I decided to try Texas Chicken in Texas. The chicken was juicy, crunchy, and absolutely delicious. Plus, it's tips free.



The next morning, I felt a bit better after trying some sore throat remedies. Interestingly, when I picked it up from the pharmacy and opened it to drink right away on the road the day before, a homeless man said to me, "I hope you feel better soon!" Such a kind gesture!



But first, focus on style. Make my dress look chic with this compact yet convenient iron.



The main highlight of the day was participating in a gun shooting challenge at Top Gun in Houston, a quintessential Texas activity.



I completed the registration at the front counter, then chose my gun model and paid the fee. After putting on all the necessary protective gear, I was allowed to enter the shooting range.



It was my first time handling a real gun and shooting at a live range. A nice staff accompanied me throughout the session, providing guidance and support. But I still felt very scared and shed a few tears after taking a few shots at the beginning.



This is my final shooting score. While it's not an excellent one, I'm pretty sure no one could survive being hit by 15 bullets. Haha ~



Self-reflection after experiencing real gun shooting : Stepping out of comfort zone is often easier than think.



The Williams Tower, a prominent 64-story office building located in the Uptown District of Houston. Completed in 1983, it stands at a height of 277 meters, making it the tallest building in Houston outside of the downtown area, also the tallest skyscraper in the US not situated in a central business district.



The Waterwall, completed in 1985, is a striking 64-foot-tall semi-circular fountain located in the heart of Houston's Uptown District, next to the Williams Tower. This architectural marvel recycles approximately 78,500 gallons of water every three hours, creating a captivating urban waterfall effect that attracts numerous tourists. Despite the crowds, I spent a few minutes to capture this photo with a realtively clear background.



The Galleria department store in Houston, what a modern, upscale design, contrasting sharply with New Zealand's more rustic and natural aesthetic.



Plus, a dedicated indoor skating rink.



Grabbed a delicious mushroom burger from Shake Shack as a pre-dinner, featuring a crispy fried portobello stuffed with cheese and some veggies.



On my way to the POST Houston.



This comforting bowl of ramen rejuvenated my spirit and warmed my heart like nothing else could.



The illuminated Ferris wheel at Houston's Downtown Aquarium offers stunning nighttime views of the city skyline.



A vibrant corner in the theater and opera district of downtown Houston.



As dawn breaks on the new day, I enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast included with my accommodation. The spread is impressive, offering a diverse array of dishes that far exceeds what's shown in the photo. In fact, the actual selection is at least 6 times more extensive than what's pictured, providing guests with an abundance of choices to start their day.



My favorite item is the organic hard-boiled eggs, conveniently packed with two eggs each.



The weather was nice, but I felt worse with my cold and flu.



I hopped on a long-distance bus to a rural Chinese supermarket in Houston that sells antibiotics over the counter.



Unfortunately, they only sell the penicillin, which I’m allergic to. What a bummer!



If there's no medicine to take, at least enjoy some good food. HaiDiLao will definitely be my lifesaver.



The waitress I encountered was from Taiwan Province, China. She was exceptionally kind and generously packed me some snacks.



Since I've already come all the way, it'd be a shame to just grab a meal and leave. Why not make the most of it and catch a movie while I was there?



Watched the movie "Napoleon" because both the main actor and actress are my favorites. However, I found the excessive sexual scenes unnecessary and felt they portrayed Napoleon as foolish.



After the movie, I ran into a new problem. The buses had stopped running at 4:00 PM, so I had to call an Uber. It was pricey at about 50 USD, but I didn't mind splurging a bit on my last night. Even though I wasn't feeling great, I still had a good time in the city. The comfortable Uber ride was a nice way to end my stay.

That wraps up the first part of my trip story in Houston, Texas. The next destination is New Orleans, Louisiana. Yep, New Orleans - known for its tasty chicken wings. I took the Amtrak train to get there, which was an all-day journey. Will share more details in the following part of this post.

G.2 - New Orleans, Louisiana (Key words: Jazz, World War II, Vintage, Street Art, Recovery)

The weather was beautiful as I boarded the train from Houston to New Orleans, which features a cozy dining and observation cabin.



For this 9-hour journey, a good book is essential.



Made a new friend who loves Korean culture, a beautiful American lady. We talked and laughed a lot along the way, and before we knew it, time flew by. We were almost at our final destination.



Could you see the round red dot in the picture? It was a red moon, also known as a blood moon.



At last, the long journey has come to an end.



Was waiting at the gate for my luggage to be released.



After checking in at the backpacker hostel, I went to the supermarket for some grocery shopping and found a penny on the ground. What a lucky sign!



The next morning, I woke up early and had breakfast with a book while my laundry was being done.



The blue sky and green palm trees made me feel like I was in Califonia.



Colorful things bring me joy.



Pls keep this gaint giraffe in mind, I will share photos of the real one soon.



Had a Japanese style BBQ meal for lunch.



The meat was tender and melted in my mouth.



Take a guess, where was I heading to?

On my way to the supermarket, I found another one penny on the ground again. Money loves me!



Visited Preservation Hall to enjoy some jazz, but I found the performence disappointing. The musicians appeared unprofesstional, with many not wearing suits, and even the female pianist was dressed too casually. This lack of professionalism made me feel that they did not respect their craft.



After watching the jazz show, walked back to the hostel. My eyes were delighted by the diverse elements around me.



Who doesn't love Chanel?



What a lovely creation!



One surprising reality: the real New Orleans chicken wings are all deep fried chicken wings.



In the morning light of a new day, I saw this statue of Mr. Louis Armstrong, a profestional jazz musician.  



This is the jazz show that I look forward to watching and experiencing.



Here it is! The real cruise - Steamer Natchez, offers an authentic cruise experience along the Mississippi River, showcasing the beauty of NOLA (An acronym that stands for New Orleans). I feel it is smaller than the one in Queenstown, but still produces a capitivating sound.



A must-try dessert in NOLA is the beigent, a delightful deep-fried pastry that is normally served hot and generously dested with powered sugar.



Given my concerns about fine carbs intake, I did not choose the beignet. Instead, I grabbed Creole Jambalaya, which is similar to Italian risitto.



Fun fact: Paris has offically banned love locks, highlighting a growing recognition of the need to balance personal expression with the preservaton of public spaces.

They offer blood bags. Of course not:  it's a cocktail in a blodd bag package.  



Forgot what I ordered, probably crocodile meat, but the taste was good.

After dinner, I still felt unwell. On my way back to the hostel, when passed by a restaurant, I heared a beautiful slow song played by this gentleman.



Took a quick nap to gain some more energy for enjoying the musical show "Wicked".



Wait! This place looks so familiar. Oh, I surprisingly relised that the interior of this theather is exactly the same as the Civic in Auckland. I am pretty sure!



My night snack, the authentic New Orleans deep-fried chicken wings.



Good morning, VOODOO!



Time to enjoy a good quality brunch at Palace Cafe.



Both food quality and service manners are worth tipping for.

I love it.



Feel free to enjoy their music and pay tips as you feel.



Didn't try the beignets, but the coffee was good.



Street artists are everywhere in NOLA.



The Chinese man wearing a light brown gown only talked to Caucasian, but didn't try to sell me anything: I think he is very smart. If you know, you know.

It's a great joy to feel this lady's music.



Adluts can also enjoy soap bubbles, including me.



Discovered a fantastic vintage shop called M.S. Rau, a legendary fine art, antiques, and jewelry gallery. It was worth every moment I spent in it.



Exquisite.

It's all I can feel about the dynamic Bourbon Street, with numerous bars, eateries, and its live music venues.



The last dinner in NOLA was started with oysters.



Then followed by a combinaiton of three traitional dishes in NOLA. Highly recommend this place called Oceana Grill to taste the original NOLA food.



The last mission before heading back to the hostel is capturing a photo of the Vampire's shadow.



Randomly chose this restaurant for my last brunch in NOLA. The interior theme here matched with my raincoat perfectly.



But, the food was ... um ... I would perfer not to say anything.



The second cource was a little bit slightly better.



This calorie bomb made me feel seriously guilty.



But anyway, yes, the word "anyway" can solve a lot of issues. Anyway, it was a wonderful time in NOLA, and I have recovered from flu without taking any antibiotics. I will definitely return some day, and share some free gifts from the upper deck like other seniors, spreading joy to more people. I wish to experience the thrill of being a generous benefactor. This statement could also be my self-reflection outcome for this part.



Alright, I have wrapped up my memories in NOLA, and my next adventure takes me to Orlando, Florida - the home of Walk Disney World!

G.3 Orlando, Florida ( Key Words: Pancake, Morse Museum & Walt Disney World)

On my first morning in Orlando, I took an Uber to Downtown Winter Park. The area feels like Ponsonby in Auckland, with plenty of great restaurants, cafes and charming shops all around. I started my first meal at a cafe called Briarpatch, how pretty the bright yellow sunshade and rain shelter were.



If I ever go back to this area, it will definitely be for this legendary rasberry pancake. It fullfills all my fantasies of the perfect one.



After brunch, while I was window shopping nearby, I was treated with this delicous handmade Haitian cookie for free. It tasted like Chinese style mung bean cake.



At the Morse Museum, I viewed the Louis Comfort Tiffany windows.



Also various style of Louis Comfort Tiffany lamps.



Of course, some stunning jewelry.



A golden bracelet.



Especially, Louis Comfort Tiffany's chapel interior from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago.



After the tour of luxury items at the musuem, I continued exploring small surprises at the shops nearby.



I really like this item. Confidence is the new beauty.



Great for display.

And I found another penny on the ground, money seems to love me.



After missing my bus, I spent a few minutes enjoying a peaceful walk around a college.



That evening, after leaving the Winter Park area, I headed to the city center for some grocery shopping at the Publix supermarket. Then I went to bed early to make sure I would have plenty of energy to enjoy my time ar Walt Disney World Resort the next day.

The weather was prefect! And finally, I was in front of the dreamland! There are lots of Disney Land parks around the world, but only this one in Orlando is called Disney World!



As soon as I entered, I felt like a princess, a fairy, or whoever I wanted to be.



The first spot I checked out was the desser shop.



At my age, as an adult, I still love colorful ballons, but I don't need to own one anymore.



Hey, hey, hey, join us in exploring the biggest Disney theme park in the world!



But first, grab a bite. Can you imagine how terrible this hotdog was? Actually it tasted 10 times worse.



But it didn't matter. My main goal was not the food.



Wow! How lucky I was! The first activity was the Frozen show with Minnie & Mickey.



And my favorite, Winnie the Pooh.



I joined a long queue at the carousel, but suddenly there was a technical problem. Everyone left, but I stayed. After a few minutes, it was up and running again. How lucky I was!



But my lucky ran out at this spot, the TRON.



I thought it was just an observation activity, I swear. I am not a fan of X-activities at all.



But it was too late to quit. Even some kids were brave enough to go on the ride, so I decided to jump on the motrocycle, too.


   
It was the wrong decistion. I was extremely scared and couldn't open my eyes for even a single second.



But most people seems to be having a lot of fun. They are not earth human, I am sure.

I needed some recovery with fresh food.



A good choice with minimal wating time.



Then it's time for another exiting show.



No matter their gender, age or region, everyone was exited.



The show began. Say hi to those lovely friends.

As night fell, the highlight show began.



It's not just fireworks; it's about the hopes of life.



And the wishes of a better future.



It was worth the trip to Orlando.



The fireworks, the music, and the laser show were all fantastic and deeply touching. I cried because I felt proud of myself for both the achievements and mistakes I've made. I know who I am, I love being a real person like me. I deserve the best in this world.



The next morning, I was on my way out of Orlando, heading to Miami by train. Look at this special Uber car!

Enjoyed my last meal at a restaurant called Delaney's Trvern in Orlando, about a 15-min walk from the train station.



The taco was great.



The service was also worth a tip.



These juicy meatballs were perfect ending to my stay in Orlando.



Before borading the train, a kind old train crew double-checked the destination with every passenger. He needed to make sure everyone was heading to Miami. When he asked me the same question, mu response was:"I am going to see Messi!" We both shared a big smile.

That is the story of my time in Orlando, next up is Miami, and it's coming next week.

如果去南美的东海岸，一定一定要准备驱蚊产品。特别是阿根廷，走在大马路上都会被咬好几个包。

如果去高原地区， 比如玻利维亚的首都拉巴斯和秘鲁的库斯科，也一定一定要准备抗高反的药物。

带美金的现金过去，到本地的换汇所，按照当天的汇率换本地现金最划算。南美很多国家的ATM机器上都有限额，每次可以取的现金很少，可是手续费却很高。

另外，我还剩一些高反药片，大概够3-4天的量，到25年初过期的。我再去南美至少要26年了，如果你需要的话可以赠送给你。

非常期待。有些地方去过了，有些地方年底去，而南美之行推到明年了，非常感谢花时间和精力分享这么些美好的时刻。

这个问题，要看个人的安全意识吧。我在巴西的圣保罗，连手机都不敢拿在手里。都是一定要先看到警察，然后站到警察身边，再拿出手机看地图的。所以，首先做到不要漏财，别穿大logo背名牌包，平时自己多提防的话，没什么问题。
