Posting her complaint on social media – which tagged the account of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern – Abercrombie said she has two autistic children, while suggesting she had applied for a medical exemption, which was still being processed.

But when asked about an exemption for the Abercrombie family, the Ministry of Health told Stuff “this was not a health-related decision”.

After complaining about the cleanliness of the facility, Stuff understands Abercrombie was allowed to serve the remainder of her mandatory 14-day isolation period in the family’s $3 million home in an exclusive part of Auckland's North Shore.

Neighbours, who did not want to be identified, said security guards were stationed outside the home.

The family of a high profile New Zealand sports star have reportedly side-stepped their managed isolation facility in favour of their luxury home.

Stuff reports the wife of the sportsman complained about the state of her room in managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) and was subsequently granted an exemption from the facility for herself and her children.

It's understood some of her children have special needs.

The family are now in isolation at their $3 milion property in a wealthy suburb of Auckland.

Stuff reports neighbours of the sports star's family say security guards are stationed outside the house, and a notice on the gate of the property warns all deliveries must be contactless.
