Tony alexander recently changed his position - if you want to get into the property ladder, probably need to compromise your position and look into areas that you might have rejected before in order to get in.
back in 2012, many people doubted and there was a lot of forum discussion (from skykiwi) just like today, when the value was at $500K range and within a year or so, it was $750K (North Shore full site). Greenhithe was $700K and within a year, it was $900K.
I won't say this will happen this time, it is interesting to see T Alexander's view in a recent interview and he sounded a bit of "Fear of missing out" and probably thinking the probability of getting double-digit growth is on the card.
