Green Party calling for house prices to be cut in half over time - Labour says, no way

Andrew Little and Metiria Turei are having their first political marital spat - she wants house prices cut in half, but he says no way.
On Wednesday Turei, the Greens co-leader, put her neck out politically calling for house prices to be slashed, particularly in Auckland, where the average is knocking on $1 million.
She's considering policy that house prices drop to about three to four times the median household income.
In today's terms that would be roughly an $80,000 income and houses valued at about $300-$400,000.
But the Labour leader has dismissed the idea and says while the party agrees with the Greens on many things - prompting a Memorandum of Understanding between the two in May - this is one they did not.
"We don't agree with it and it won't be happening under the next Labour-led Government.
Our policy is to build more affordable homes at a fixed price and to get the offshore speculators out of the market," Little said.
"The Greens have put it up as their policy, it's not our policy, we don't agree with it, we won't be doing it."
Prime Minister John Key said the Greens were trying to "destroy the savings of New Zealanders".
