How long are medical certificates valid for?
A General Medical Certificate, Limited Medical Certificate,or a Chest X-ray Certificate (and associated reports) mustbe less than three months old at the time you lodge yourapplication.Generally, medical and chest X-ray certificates providedto us will be valid for three years. If you have lodgedanother application with us recently, and you provided amedical and/or chest X-ray certificate with your previousapplication, you may not have to submit anothercertificate(s). The medical and chest X-ray certificate(s) thatyou previously provided must be less than three years old,and you must have previously been assessed as having anacceptable standard of health based on those certificates.
However, new medical and/or chest X-ray certificates lessthan three months old must be provided at the time youlodge your application if:
• Chest X-ray Certificate: you have spent six consecutivemonths since your Chest X-ray Certificate was issuedin any one or more countries that do not appear on thelist of low-incidence TB countries, or• General Medical Certificate: you provided a LimitedMedical Certificate with your previous application butyou are no longer the partner or dependent child of aNew Zealand citizen or residence class visa holder, or arecognised refugee or protected person, or
• an immigration officer requires you to provide them. You must also provide a Chest X-ray Certificate and testsspecified in the General Medical Certificate, if you didnot provide this information with your previous medicalcertificate because of your age, or because you werepregnant, and these exemptions no longer apply. If you submitted an application to us before 30 July 2012 andwe have not retained your medical or chest X-ray certificates, you may also be required to provide updated certificates.
