I found the story ('Chinatown' opposed, Central Leader July 22) most interesting.
I know the Balmoral area well and work in the area.
Mr. Hua's comment about wishing to include all cultures in the area is laudable, but as most of the signage is in Chinese I would think other cultures feel excluded.
Many extremely expensive vehicles drive in and out of the area all day, but little money appears to be spent on premises by owners.
On my way to work in the morning there is a detritus of half eaten takeaways and plastic containers strewn about the streets along with cigarette butts and overflowing rubbish bins from last night's diners.
It is a pleasure to visit other suburban shopping strips with a great mix of shops and cafes, eg. Blockhouse Bay, Mt. Eden and Eden Quarter where there is a good mix of shops and premises are clean, tidy and inviting.
