With weather forecasts predicting continuing bad weather I wish to inform all staff and students of the arrangements for notifying the closure of the University if this becomes necessary.
We will announce closure through the Cancellation Service on Christchurch’s NewsTalkZB (1098AM) and Classic Hits (97.7FM) radio station half hourly from as early as 7.30am on the day of closure. We will also send through notification to the 92MoreFM (92.00FM) radio station so they can announce it whenever possible.
For those who leave for work before 7.30am I suggest that, using your judgement about the weather conditions, you delay your departure until after listening to the Cancellation Service on NewstalkZB. Should conditions not necessitate closure and we remain open, any lateness incurred by staying to listen to the radio will be fully justified under the circumstances.
Whatever the conditions, please travel with due caution, as I am sure you normally do.
If you miss the radio notification, the messages on both of the University’s main numbers – 3252811, 3253838, 0800 106010- will be changed early in the closure process, so you can ring in and check the situation on either of those numbers, or check the website. Phoning your supervisor, manager, Dean or a work colleague is another way of informing yourself about the situation.
In the unlikely event of closure for two days being necessary, the same notification procedure will apply on the second day as on the first.
These general arrangements for notification of closure are part of Lincoln University’s formal closure protocol until further notice.
