There are some relevant research papers on the back of the booklet which your MW should give you. I did a big research about VitK before my first baby was born, as some research say Vit K may related to leukemia (blood cancer).
The blood from new borns is harder to coagulate (stop bleeding) than adults. Some people think there must be a reason for this, which we may not have got understood yet. I do think this way as well. This is natural. This is just as same as that new borns are shorter than adults, and nobody has any worrying about this.
However, internal organ bleeding is very severe problem for new borns. Vit K can dramatically lower the chance, for sure.
Therefore, I chose NOT to give Vit K for my first baby, as she was born absolutely naturally and everything went well. I DID choose to give Vit K for my second baby, as he was vaccumed out. He got much higher chance to have brain bleeding than natual birth babies and Vit K can very much lower the risk.
This is my experience. Happy to share with others.
