Sounds like you are under performance management already (which mean if you don't perform within a set period of time, they can fire you using the justification that you don't perform).
If i were you, i will:
- be up front about it to your manager
- ask for guidance/help
- consider putting you back to your previous role/project?
It is unfair for your boss to put you on something totally new and expect you to just do magic though, being your boss they should have guided you and hand hold you to make sure you are on the right direction etc.
