Yes or No. In general, "All suspects are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law" SO you don't need prove anything; that's job of the court or police find evidence to prosecute. If each party involved is no injured or no complains, there is then no problem and no legal proceeding. If self-defence is overly done caused serious injuries or death, the game will change. In this situation, you become an "assailant" not "victim", so there are no easy answers and all depends.
Sharing few simple tips from what I read, learn and hear:
1. A fight avoided is a FIGHT WIN. No need to fight if you could run. The fight is always your last resource. Be like an animal, if cannot fight always be ready to run away from danger. Don't just stand there and become "victim". Be situational awareness, always check around people around you and keep good distance with them. In public space, don't just focus on watching your bloody cellphone or doing anything distraction, be aware your surrounding all the time.
2. In case, you cannot avoid and do you best to defend yourself. No one can help you when the assault occurs at the time (Police will say that). You are the only person responsible for your own life. You don't be victim and you need fight for survival. Best do some sport activities or learn some martial arts, that gives you some physical ability when you need during the fight or simply at least enables you to run away when you needed. I have been practising martial arts for years and no fight yet. However if really happens no doubt I will do whatever I can to test what I have learned. Also, don't let martial arts override your confidence. Most people train in dojo where you train under rules with nice parters. Out street is different story from where you used to be trained. So don't rely too much you learn from martial arts Bollocks! Learn whatever which is best work for you. All these no guarantee you win a fight, but at least give you good mindset and attitude to deal with nasty situation. Remember "WIN the fight" is not the goal; your safety is priority.
3. Always report any complaints or incidents to Police. If you don't, you lose your chance to get those thugs in jail. The more people report incidents, the more chance get Police's awareness and they will have to do somethings about. Otherwise, no one reports and there is no problem for them. Don't just complaint police do nothing, at least you need tell them what you concern. Whether they can solve the case or not, who knows and at least got try.
