The driver licence theory test will computerised

From August 2009 the driver licence theory test will move from a paper-based test to a computerised version. The NZ Transport Agency estimates that all theory tests will be taken on a computer by early 2010. These changes affect people taking driver licence theory test for car, heavy vehicle and motorcycle.

The questions in the learner licence theory test will continue to be taken from the official New Zealand road code for either car drivers, heavy vehicle drivers or motorcyclists. So make sure you read and learn everything in the relevant road code before your test.

Besides English, the computerised theory test will be available in Arabic, Chinese (simplied and traditional), Korean, Samoan, Tongan, Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Maori.

Some facts about the computerised theory test:
- There are 35 questions.
- The questions appear in a random order and are multi-choice.
- You select the answer you think is correct by clicking on it.
- The answer will be locked in only when you move to the next question.
- The correct answer to the pervious question will then be revealed.
