North Shore bids to be an independent nation

North shore is about the size of singapore with population of about 300,000.

If you want to stir things up, this is an independent bid to make it a nation on its own.

Give your signature if you support the bid, it needs 400,000 signatures to call for a referendum.

A referendum similar to BREXIT will see North Shore breaking away from NZ. A passport will be needed if South Auckland people want to enter North Shore Independent State.

30/5/2018: The weather is freezing cold outside, i decided to have an active discussion on what it takes to be a City State, taking a few countries as points of reference, namely Singapore, Monaco, Vetican, Tax haven island ( Panama), the work ethics and the Spirit of Capitalism in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

When using those countries as points of reference in discussing North Shore Independent State (NSIS), the discussion slowly tune towards the following issues:

- on tax structures: how low tax regime would end up motivate the people and the nation to excel rather than punishing them for the hard work they produce.
- Social policy on compulsory saving and employer contribution and retirement.
- Ageing and Multi culture based retirement communal villages and partly government funded policy in elderly care. Age with dignity/ respect.
- foreign investment ( how Global Head Quarter can set a base in North Shore and capitalising on its human Capital), gradual taxation on foreign companies to encourage them setting a base and creating employment opportunities.
-how quality immigration and concept of meritocracy should be a centre of focus over popular culture in the making of city State.

- Location of CBD and light rails and building of intelligent city; how the city is interconnected with the light rail link.
- Eco and environmental friendly city

- Developing Technology hub to be a "silicon valley of the Pacific"; start up, enterprenuership; potential for financial hub  (banking secrecy ; parking of assets and money)and "swisszerland of the pacific". Investors friendly regulations and compliance.

- Zero Tolerance to crime and rule of law to be of paramout priority for the City State and among other issues in the form of questions and answers.

This is a hypothetical situation, of course some people take it quite seriously and some take it with sense of humours...... Whatever it is and whoever you are, you are welcome to participate, to mock, to LOL and most of all have fun.

Don't think too far, the model will not be the same as Auckland.

It will be a rich nation with a prime minister and 5 ministers ( small group will do), model can be like Monoco, targeting rich people and where they can park the money in North Shore.

The nation has potential to grow to 3 million population as a financial,medical  and technologies hubs

People who hold property now in north shore will see the increase in price if it becomes an independent nation.

哈哈上次我说北岸共和国要在大桥上设卡查签证，还真有人打算干？

我觉得是这人去年没选上MP,现在找辙做点夸张动作博眼球，为下届当选做准备。北岸又不是加州，起码得联合Rodney。

Rodney will be renamed and part of north shore. The size is about right for a nation.

It will be a safe haven.


politically neutral like swisszerland. People can park their assets and money here, it will be internationally attractive.

with a population of 300,000 and poor urban infrastructure, how is it supposed to financially support the normal government operation and administration? Assuming there will be no tax of the assets and monetary "parked" there....otherwise, the attraction would be just a dream, wouldn't it.

It will support immigration.

50% of singapore population are made of immigrants.
first $100,000 pe annum income tax free.

Then encourage Internation Corps to set up head office here with tax incentives....
The infrastructure can easily be built with light rail connecting each other and with minimal use of cars.

Anyone who need to buy a car will have to pay some permit fee ( like the one used in singapore). It will be handy if they need to drive to Auckland.

most of the houses in Northcote and northcote points will be acquired as new CBD, mirroring Auckland

The next phase will be " silicon valley of Pacific"

No need to sell PR, the good international companies will want to set up offices here for tax incentives.... The nation will tax them gradually over a period of time ( say over a period of 10 yrs). It will provide job opportunities for North shore citizens /PR.

In no time, the population in North shore will grow to 1-2 million, you will see construction boom and infrastructure boom that you never seen before.

Most of the workers from Auckland will flood to North shore to work. Grant them daily passes to come to work is probably okay.... there will be special buses to send them off the bridge which is an immigration check-point.

Ar ha ... I got you ... basically just copy Singapore completely from top to bottom. It may work but you see there is one fundamental part missing here, it took years for Singapore to be position where it is now despite the culture and geo-location difference. Will North shore be able to survive the shock caused by the decision like this is still a question mark. More importantly, are residents willing to take such risk .....  

Well, what do I know, right, I'm not even a resident of North Shore ....

No worries, you will soon want to be a North Shore Resident with all these possibilities. haha..........

1) It will be Zero tolerant to Crime. As the area is small, there will be police petroling 24 hours.

2) If Up North people want to join the North Shore Independent Nation, they will be encouraged to join. Up north will be designed with good retirement villages with good eco friendly system. Residents will plant their own fruits, vegetable. Different races will be encourage to submit their ideas and make the retirement villages accessible to all races and conforming to their life style. The health care is paramout and people will need some respect for the old age.

3) A scheme like "saving for old age (SOA)" will be implemented and compulsory contribution: 10% of your salary and 10% from employer. So you save 20% a month, it will go to your retirement savings under the sovereign fund.
The sovereign Fund will have machinenary to invest in local and overseas companies for the savers.
