Air conditioning system inspection

The air conditioning system should be operated weekly for 10 to 15 minutes during winter months to ensure lubrication of the system. periodic check should be made of the following items.

1 Compressor drive belt

check fot condition and tension. the deflection of the belt in the middle of the longest span should be between 6mm and 10mm when checked by hand.

2Hose fittings and connections

The system is subjected to a high pressure and will leak refrigerant if connection are not tight. when being installed, refrigerant oil should be used on all hose fittings and connections, which should be fitted correctly.

where fitted, new O-rings should be used, ensuring that they are the correct type of O-rings for the type of refrigerent used.

inspect all joints and connections closely - a refrigerent leak will usually show up as an oily residue. the oil in any refrigerent that leaks out will pick up dust and dirt. and over a period of time, this will build up and look like dirt-impregnated grease.

3 condenser

the condenser fins should be kept clean and clear of insects so that the airflow is not restricted and cooling efficiency is maintained.
