Inbound net migration has hit a 10-year high, with 29,000 people coming into the country in the year to February.

  

With the economy already performing strongly, will this put even more pressure on the Reserve Bank to raise interest rates further and faster?

  

Christian Hawkesby of Harbour Asset Management says it's hard to remember a time when the New Zealand economy was firing like it is now.

  

"Over the past 12 months we've had economic growth, one of the fastest in the developed world, and I think the net migration number is just one more leading indicator that growth is looking strong over the next 12 months," he says.

  

And, in his opinion, it's likely to see interest rates rise.
