Introduction

New Zealand Employment Law

This workshop is being presented by Chris Ellis of the

Whitireia Community Law Centre

The workshop will provide an overview of New Zealand Employment Law including

The Human Rights Act and how it relates to your employment or job search

·
Health and Safety in the Employment Act and your obligations

·
Employment Law covering employment agreements and how to make the employment relationship work

Local Settlement Network Meeting

in

Porirua City.

The Local Settlement Network (LSN) meets two or three times a year. As a group it supports good settlement outcomes for newcomers to New Zealand.
The LSN works co-operatively and collaboratively and this work includes sharing appropriate information about your organisation or group. You may also be an individual who is new to New Zealand or at some other stage in the settlement process. Please come and share your views. We would like to hear from you. Please feel free to simply come along and observe – there is no pressure to speak.
When: 10th August 2009, 5.30pm to 7.00pm
Where: Meeting Room 1, Te Rauparaha Arena (go to reception on arrival)
Follow these driving directions to Te Rauparaha Arena
From North - Take off-ramp and overbridge to Porirua and Titahi Bay. Turn right at the roundabout (next to Pak'n'Save) GO straight through next roundabout. Turn left at roundabout (between Big Save Furniture and Briscoes). This will take you to the carpark of Te Rauparaha Arena.
From South –
Take-off ramp to Porirua. Turn left onto over bridge (Titahi Bay Road). Go straight through roundabout at bottom of the bridge (continuing on Titahi Bay Road). Continue straight through roundabout (next to KFC). Go straight through traffic lights. Turn right at roundabout (next to Denny's Restaurant). Turn right at roundabout (next to Burger King) onto Parumoana Street. Turn right at roundabout (between Briscoes and Big Save Furniture) into carpark of Te Rauaparaha Arena.


The co-ordinator will give a brief report on the initiative in Porirua. We will then have small group discussions on the needs (new and ongoing) of the migrant and refugee communities.
Refreshments are provided on arrival.
