This latest test is of 205/60 R16 tyres suitable for several modern mid-sized cars. It adds to the range of tyre sizes we've tested over the last few years using the same test method.

Our test car was a Holden Cruze CD and we tested on a closed racetrack. We assessed wet and dry cornering performance as well as wet and dry braking distance. We also measured the rolling noise inside the car while driving on coarse-chip seal at 50 and 80km/h

Best in test - it had the highest-scoring combination of wet and dry corning and wet and dry braking - was the Bridgestone Turanza ER300. It was closely followed by the Ovation Eco Vision VI-682 and the Yokohama C Drive 2.

Running noise differences were minimal at 50km/h on coarse-chip seal: there was a hardly noticeable 2dBA difference across the test models. At 80km/h that difference was a more noticeable 5dBA and at this higher speed the quietest was the Maxxis MA-P1 VIP and noisiest the Hankook Optimo K415
